Should I back off from buying m3?

I was originally planning to by a 335i F30. Then I realized with the same amount of money I could buy an M3, the last naturally aspirated M car. The only drawback would have been the gas mileage, which is not worst than my current drive. (X5 3.0si). I started looking, and I was planning to buy one until the end of May. I live in Boston area, but I made a research in the forum, and everybody said I would be OK with blizzaks in Boston. (M3 would be my only car)

But yesterday, I got a very good job offer and.. it's in Vermont. I will probably take it. The roads are beautiful there: The kind you would shoot M3 commercials. Curvy, in forest, beautiful sceneries. But of course, there is an average of 60 inches snowfall by season, and most of the cars I've seen there when I went there for my interview, were Ford F150s.

So, you, as M3 drivers, what do you say: Should I back off from my decision?

I live in Finland and we have 6 months of snow every year. Didn't stop me from getting my M3 as my only car. M3 is fine here with good winter tires as long as the snow ploughs keep clearing the roads. My brother drives a 993 Turbo in the winter and does fine.

Being able to make the car move and actually having any fun are two different things. If its me and this is going to be my only car I make it my sort of only car and pick up a cheap beater for the worst of the winter duty. I've never lived in an area where the roads are always plowed around the clock every day and if ya gotta get to work ya gotta get to work.

u should be fine, jus keep ur suspension stock during winter mode.

the M3 with winter tires is great on winter roads. no problem for a DD as long as you aren't running the car in -30F weather. It doesn't appreciate that.

I don't know if I would have an M3 as my only car in a snow heavy place like Vermont, I'd maybe opt for X5M or at least a coupe/sedan with AWD. But if I had to have the M3, I'd think about picking up a cheap beater with 4wd for the worst winter days.

I live in Boston, the weather can suck pretty bad. However, not as bad as the placews some of the others live who have posted above. I do not drive my M in the snow, I do have another car. However, I have driven rear wheel cars in the snow (with proper snow tires) and have done just fine. Buy the car!

My M3 is my daily driver and has been great in Chicago snow storms. Just need good winter tires to make it happen.

if you drive an M3 in winter, you'll want a short commute or telecommute option at work. If your new job is so good and with teh cost savings of living in VT vs. Boston, buy a cheap commuter and an M3... win/win!

Agreed, won't be fun in the winter. If anything (nobody shoot me) maybe get an s5 as its pretty good in the snow from what I hear from my friends up in New York.

Buy a 5-6K used Cherokee or other 4x4 as a backup or DD.. I have a Blazer ZR2 4x4 to keep the M3 in good shape and bad weather. Great combo, and when you do drive the M3 you'll notice how much fun it is.

There are lots of M3s in Canada that are daily drivers and just fine. Just like daily driver RWD 335i, like what I have now and of which plenty exist here in Canuckland as well. We don't have just AWD here. My M3 will be one of those driven all year round. Just get a good set of winter tires. That is most important, whether RWD or FWD or AWD.

I drive my M3 all-year round in Toronto, Canada and you guys in the States know how it is in Canada.

It snows all-year and we have to avoid Eskimos and igloos all the time!

i wouldnt back out based on snow driving as i daily drive mine and as you know we were hammered with snow last year. i was fine with snow tires on country unplowed roads. i will say that you should probably consider not driving your m3 in vt winters as i have heard they use gravel on the roads in the winter which will destroy your paint.

Hopefully you will be keeping your X5. I have an X5 and M3 and have the best of both worlds. Don't sacrifice your X5 for M3. No need. Save so you can have both.

I have an M3 and live in Calgary, Canada. Just have good snow tires and never had any problem.

I used to live in an area where snow 18-20 times per winter and with a good set of winter/snow tires, you will have pretty much no problem going around town unless you insist to do something crazy.
