I don't, honestly. If others would find it helpful, I can talk to my SA about it and get ballpark numbers?

If this is indeed the cure to the problem, I might have this done privately rather than go through dealer again

Any updates on price for the repair outside of BMW?

I hadn't checked with the SA on pricing since no one specifically asked for it. I suspect that outside repair costs will vary somewhat, but likely the biggest part of the bill would be the replacement parts themselves.

My dealership replaced my Fuel Purge Valve is what I remember from my receipt. So far I have filled up only 1 time, but it seems to have fixed the issue. Ill follow up after some more fillups. I had the same exact symptoms as the OP.

The fuel tank breather valve (and possibly fuel pump repair kit?) seemed to be the ultimate cure for my issue.

After my purge valve was replace, I've had several fill ups without any issue. Thanks OP for creating this thread. I know it helped me and my service tech out tremendously in solving my issue.

I don't have the documents handy, and the car is in another city atm. I will check it and let you know exactly. But the documents the OP posted earlier in this thread, post #44 was I believe the same purge valve.

Great to hear you're all fixed up, and happy to help in a small way. That's what these forums ought to be about - helping one another! I know I've been helped numerous times here.

The fuel purge valve / tank breather is the only thing that makes sense to me if the problems are occurring only after you fill the tank. If the valve is "sticky", then filling the tank may be changing the vapor pressure just enough to cause the tank to vapor lock, thus starving the pump intermittently. That is also why the techs might be chasing fuel pump and TVA issues...they are getting fooled by the symptom.
I could be way off...but what strikes me is how the symptoms seem to always be after filling the tank. Can't see how that would affect pump/actuators/injectors...but could affect the breather / evap system. While waiting for the dealer to fix it, try filling to only 7/8 of a tank and see if that helps. |

I'm thinking about replacing the Idle Control Valve. I know that some people changed their Purge Valve on the gas tank. But to my opinion, the Purge Valve would cure if the car is vapor locked. Meaning that would either start and dies or it won't start at all. The ICV is the onlything that points out at the problem that most of us are having with the erratic idle and stalling at a stop. Which mine is doing. And I'm not having any codes.

In one of these threads I posted a video I took of my erratic idle. I showed it to the lead service tech at my dealer and the first thing he said was let's replace the Idle Control Valve. With my car going into the shop Monday to get the rear end damage repaired I won't be able to get my car to the dealer until late May. As I recall gpitts had his ICV replaced and that did not resolve the issue.

Yeah, I talked to one of my friends that work for United BMW here in GA. When I told him what my car was doing, which is exactly what yours is doing, first thing that came out of his mouth was the ICV. So I'm going with that.

A friend loaded the updated 240e software in my car. So far so good. I will do a test drive and drive it hard and see if the problem persist. If it does, I am replacing the ICV.

Hope that works for you. My car is already on 240e and the problem persists...

I wanted to start cheap and then get into the expensive stuff. I drove it before the software update and it never gave me any problems at all. I also noticed that the idle is bumped a little with the new 240e software? Or is it my brain playing tricks?

So far me loading the new software 240e has helped the issue. The car hasn't done it again. Does not meant that it is fixed, just mean that I have seen the issue occurred. I will have to give a few more times to see if it is actually fixed. Will keep everybody posted. If this does not fix it, I will be replacing the ICV.
