What taxes are to be paid ordering from another province?

Hello,

I'm planning on ordering a vBox from a company based only in Ontario (I'm in BC) and they are wishing to charge me the 12% BC HST.

I was under the impression that when ordering from another province, you should only be charged 5% GST. I understand that if you order from, say Costco, you'd pay the appropriate provincial sales tax, since the company has stores in your home province.

It's no big deal, the 7% they wish to charge is only ~$42. But, I don't care to pay extra tax if I don't have to.


(if any one has a link to a Cdn Gov't website regarding this, that would be nice)

I'm pretty sure the sales tax (whether it be PST in addition to the GST or HST) is based upon the province the goods are ultimately shipped to.

In this case, any out-of-BC business would charge you the 12% BC HST.
