Review: JL XD600/6 amp with MB Quart QM200.3 speakers

When I was researching stereo options I could not find many reviews for this combination so I thought I would share.

Here were my requirements
- start with stock HiFi system
- Budget was $1000 but was flexible
- Looking to upgrade in stages with each stage producing a noticeable improvement over the previous one.

I reached out to forum member Technic for his advice which was the following

"- XD600/6 amp
- MB Quart QM200.3 front/woofer kit
No need to replace rear speakers.
That wopuld be a great upgrade for less than $1000 including harness and OEM connectors."

Stage 1 was to purchase/install the Amp and harness.

I followed this install video

Install was a breeze. Technics harness, power, and remote cables are worth every penny. Easiest car project I have ever done.

And tuned the stereo according to this
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=692688

Impressions: the amp alone was a very good upgrade over the stock stereo. The bass was much more pronounced and the added power allowed for higher volumes before the music became distorted. The system was much louder but not really as clear as I would have liked. When listening to it at loud volume, the highs were pretty harsh and there was not any warmth to the music.

That led me to the next stage...2 months later...upgrading the underseat woofers and component door speakers with the mb quart qm200.3

I chose not to install these myself but after seeing what the install entailed I may have done it myself if I had it to do over. Oh well...lifetime warranty on the install and 3 years on the speakers add some peace of mind.

Impressions: I have not heard many e9x sound systems but the clarity of these speakers is amazing. It really is a nice match with the JL amp. I highly doubt you could find a more affordable option as well. The bass is much more pronounced and the music has that warmth I was looking for now. I can't wait to dial it in a little more.

Some people may prefer to add a sub but I don't think it will be necessary for my taste right now. Only time will tell.

Overall, I would highly recommend all 3 products (amp, speakers, harness) to anyone looking to upgrade the HiFi stereo.

Do the woofers included with the QM200.3 replace the subs under the front seats?

Cheers,

Ersin

Ant Man most people don't upgrade the rear because they are only used for fill. Also, I don't think the speakers are the weak point with the logic 7 setup.

Just went to MB Quart's site and they show that the system is discontinued.

However, there are available on Amazon for a pretty cheap price.

Could you please share the XD600/6 settings you're using with those speakers? (gain/crossovers)

Thanks
