I'm looking at potentially buying used bbs wheels for a good price to serve as my winter wheels but I'm concerned that they are staggered and might be too wide for snow use: 18x8.5 (offset 35mm) + 245/40R-18
18x10 (offset 40mm) + 265/40R-18 .... Any thoughts? |

I am sure this has been asked and answered on this thread before, my apologies for being too lazy to search.
I purchased a BBK and can no longer use my 18" 219's for winters. Therefore, I will purchase a dedicated set of 19" OEM 359 ZCPs for my winters. What size winter tires should I get? obviously for next year A) 235/35/19 & 255/35/19 or B) 235/40/19 & 255/40/19 or C) 245/35/19 & 265/35/19 My guess is you are going to tell me A Thanks, Jeff

I recently picked up a 2013 M3 Coup. What's the current recommendation for a square 18" set up for winter? I'd prefer to go with as narrow a tire as possible.
EDIT: I just checked Tirerack, and now the Sport Edition A7s are showing up. I guess my questions now are: will you be getting more of the WinterSport 3Ds, and why would I want the newest Michelins instead?

New Winter setup-- Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4s
I just got Michelin Pilot Alpin Pa4s. My local BMW dealer suggested I go with a square setup for the winter and drop down to 18s. I heeded their advice and bought the size they recommended too. 235/40R18 on 18x8.0 w/ 5x120, offset 25.
I bought cheapo wheels by Replika and the place I bought them from balanced, mounted, inflated with nitrogen and shipped them to my home, all for free. If anyone's interested let me know and I'll be back to post after I put these on, with a review in the wet, dry, ice and snow. Hope this helps anyone interested in driving their M3 in the winter. Therefore, I ended up purchasing Blizzak LM-32s in 275/35/19 and 255/35/19, they have different speed ratings (fronts are 93H and rears are 98V) which is why they don't show up as a matching set anywhere. I am very happy, they are awesome, looking forward to heavy snow. Cudo's to Tire Rack for delivering them the next day...which is remarkable.

Hey JRV,
Sorry to hear you've had so much trouble. Makes me think twice about a big brake kit! LOL, I live in Toronto; it doesn't snow too much downtown, where I live, but its unreasonable to not get winter tires here, especially if you drive to the suburbs to visit friends and family during the winter. Blizzaks are not bad tires bro. I'll be honest, they were not close to the top of my list, but I wouldn't be disappointed with them. My E91 328xi has Kumho Wintercrafts and my 2011 E90 M3 has Michelin Alpin PA4s, but I considered Nokian WRA4s too, until I found out they were Europe only. If you can get your hands on those, reviews from experts and users alike are flawless... Best of luck with your set-up and have a safe and fun winter. Let me know if you have any issues or if the set up is just amazing... either way, I'd like to know. I'll probably put mine on next week, looks like temps will stay low after this warm-ish snap we're having here. I think I'll only consider a BBK when I retire the E90 from winter use. I hope to keep it for a very long time, so that day may come. On another note, I'm having an unreasonably hard time finding winter wheels for my Smart Fortwo Electric Drive! I know this is a BMW forum, and there's no room for Mercedes, let alone Smart in here, but I'm just sayin'.... bloody unreasonable! |

Gary,
Quick question for you. I had purchased Sport Edition A7's for my E90 M3 a few years ago. Selling them now and need the offset info. Can you look them up? Sport Edition A7s in staggered setup (18x9 and 18x8). Thanks, Asheesh |

Has anyone ran M270 235/40/18 wheels for winter with spacers? I used 15mm for the rears last year and this year I want to put them on front and put 25mm on the rear (the ones you bolt onto the wheel hub and then mount the wheel with stock bolts).
I know they will fit fine, but are there chances that it will somehow make the handling worse? I've read some things about affecting the scrub radius and therefore making the steering feel and overall handling worse. The only question is to what degree will this be affected with 15/25mm spacers, and how much of a difference will it make in rather not sporty driving during winter. Does anyone have epxerience with this?

Hey if I have 245 40ZR 18 for the front and 265 40ZR 18 for the back, what is the best tire size for the winter? All one size? I live in Alberta where it gets 3-4 really bad snow storms a season, but most of the time it is just icy.

Looking at buying 245/40/18 on 5x120 rims with offset of 32-35. Will these work okay? Or need a spacer to look reasonable?

I run M270s which are 8" ET20 with 15mm front and 25mm rear spacers and these are flush with 245 18 tyres.

I am a total novice when it comes to winter tires, so I need some help.
I have the OEM 19" rims. I am looking at the Pirelli Sottozero Serie II. Should I stagger or not? If I don't stagger, should I get 255/35R 19 on all 4? If I do stagger, Tirerack is recommending 235/35R 19 in the front and 255/35R 19 in the rear. Will this get me through a Boston winter? |

My biggest recommendation though would be to try and find a set of 18's. Our Northeast roads are all generally shit come pothole season and the 19's really don't give you much sidewall to work with. You'll be OK for traction but it'll only be 1 nasty pothole before you're searching for another replacement rim. A cheap set of 18's (I'm using the OEM 219's) will generally work better to save you. A squared setup is preferrable since you can rotate it, but also looks weird on the car if you're not running a spacer in the back.

I have the M359 rims for my summer set, so the OEM 19" would be my winter set. I'd prefer to not have to buy another set, but perhaps that means I'll be learning a hard lesson... |

Looks like the Sport Edition A7 wheels are discontinued. I'm having a hard time finding a reasonably priced wheel with similar specs (18x8 ET20) - anyone aware of another good alternative?
