No one says you have to drive with the top-down all the time, but if you enjoy it at all and can swing the cost-difference, then why would you eliminate that option?
You can be that guy in the more distinctive and much better-looking top-dawg M3; with the v8 un-muted and the wind in your hair. Or you can be that guy in the ubiquitous e92/e90, wishing he could put the top down on a nice day, and who is just hoping his car isn't confused for the new Kia Optima. If you had any inclination to buy one but didn't, then you'll also be wishing you got the e93 every time you see one. |

My uncle has an E93 M3 and he admits he never puts the top down. Ever.

You'd hope that someone buying an M3 would have driven all of the styles in which they're interested; and thereby, would know whether they want a vert.
The top is down on mine more than it's up, and it's great. One thing I'll say though, you have to be ready for the vert experience. My wife and I put the top down, she ties her hair back, and its windy, loud, and fantastic. When her friends got in the other day, with their hair perfect and makeup just so, they lasted with the top down about five minutes. So I think you have to be ready to be out in the open, and enjoy it. Cheers

If the weather is between 85 and 55 without rain the top is down, including this morning. If you are not sure though, look into something else IMO as the weight is a big difference, it is apples to oranges with the E92. This is my 3rd vert and I can't imagine getting anything else. FYI, you can track the vert on some tracks, check in your area. You can track a vert in Florida with the beginner groups of some track days; I have and the car is great on the track, yes heavy, but very tight and confidence inspiring.

I'll admit that I don't put my top down as much as I should. Anything over 90 degrees is too hot for the top down IMO. You basically get roasted which isn't an enjoyable experience. Too cold is not fun either. And as far as girls loving the top being down, I've found that a lot of girls don't like it because it messes up their hair. I do love having the option of dropping the top and will do so when the weather is good. The extra weight is a non factor for what I use the car for.

Not an e93, but had a hardtop convertible before and at first I used it all the time, but eventually almost never.
I'd prefer to have the top down in cold weather with the heater on instead of when it's really hot out. |

Topless all the time.
When it's hot - Put up the Windbreak then hit MAX on the AC unit. I think that's only for verts and it's big time only out the face vents. Perfect. When it's cold - Seat Warmers and Heat on the feet. Windbreak up. Fu*k rain. Not a problem over 30 mph. Oh, and a "Smart Top". Without the Smart Top, one touch up/down, moving up to 25mph, etc, .....forget it. Smart Top - Best mod on market for an E93. . |

Wind deflector+windows up, hair is fine under 80mph and you can have a perfect conversation. Less wind noise+less wind comes into the car than when driving an E92 with the windows down (way better than an e92 with the sunroof open) Without the wind deflector, I don't like driving it top down on the freeway. This is the same with my Z4, but it's not as good as the M3. Lots of wind still gets in compared to the M3. Without the wind deflector... then yes the hair will get messed up pretty badly. Quote:
Never been to China have you? haha I strongly agree with this statement

this thread just has me thinking.. why would they put a rag top on a $80+thousand dollar car.. (6 series)... I mean performance wise... more people own and track 3ers than 6 series..

And yes, I know it was off-topic, that's why I mentioned it in my inquiry. This thread is so weak I figured it wouldn't matter.

This is heresy...it is the ultimate convertible faux pas to drive with the top down and the windows up.
I mean holy crap, this is like sandals and socks, short sleeve shirts and neckties, Chateaubriand and ketchup...
