PS2's cost 170 dollars more almost than the HTR Z III. We all love the PS2 but paying the price for um can be disheartening. So ive been reading reviews and the HTR Z III have been getting good ratings so ive been considering them and saving myself A LOT of money. The problem is that ill be mixing the tires with PS2 up front and HTR Z III in the back. Does anyone have any experience with mixing tires or the HTR Z III? Supposedly the general consensus on the HTR Z III is that they dont have as good grip and steering response but are MUCH cheaper and last longer.

It would be for daily driving. For the track (which i havent done yet) i have my OEM 18's with the PS2's on it. I dont drive the car hard. Not like i should anyway cause the traffic here sucks and cops are everywhere. I jump on the pedal every now and then and take an off or on ramp as quick as i can whenever i can.

Ive always run the PS2 tire since the E46 M3 in 2002 so im hesitant but also curious about trying out a new tire.

Probably wouldn't kill you but I would not mix tires even on different axles, especially not with the lesser tires being on the rear of a rwd car.

for daily driving you'll be fine...you wont push the limits enough to notice the difference in adhesion limits.

i did the mix and match and they way car drives is okay (not perfect) i got for the back tyres nittos semi nt555r and then got the Kumhos ectsa and 1 thing that realy hated about them espacialy the kumhos is the side wall the ps2 have the best looking side wall for the 18's on the M and the kumhos realy made the car for people whom like to look into details


advice check for the quality of tyre and how does the side wall look

I wouldn't...its never recommended for a high performance car. Different tread patterns and different handling characteristics. If you push the car to the limits at all, thats when it could get hairy.

If you want to run a more cost effective set of tires, I think it would be best to purchase PS2s for the rear and wait until your fronts wear out. Then you can replace all the tires at the same time.

if you are going to run cheap that at least replace the fronts so they are the same all around - otherwise you can expect some snap oversteer if you get on it hard.

Mixing will NOT magically make your car catapult itself off the road, but it does make the handling less predictable, which can be unsafe.

On a car like the M3 I would not mix unless there were no other choice.

The Sumitomos are quite a good tire for the money. Giving them a try in a mixed situation does not give them a fair audition, because you will then associate the poor handling of a mixed combination with the Sumitomo experiment.

why not just pick up a set of PS2 from the for sale forum?
will probably cost you less than the sumitomo

Try an entire set of Sumitomo's. Here's my writeup on a set that I put onto my 135 last year (Tire Rack of course!!!) and I'm still enjoying them. And they look good.

With your suspension, these tires should work just fine. And at half the price of the Michelins (but certainly not half the performance or quality), you can't go wrong.
