Bulbs always have been and probably will be expensive.

Are you guys considering these upgrades from what the lights look like on the exterior or what they look like to you from the interior?

I'm not considering anything. When I get my E90, I plan on keeping the stock xenons. Being that 4200k is optimal in terms of brightness, that is more than reason enough for me to keep them oem. Besides, when I first got my e46, my xenons were very white, with some hints of yellow. A few months later, it literally went completely white/blue. Give the xenons a good 100 hours or so to burn in. The color temperature will increase (brightness decreasing slightly). You will definitely see a difference from when you first got it.
