I have the BMW tire and wheel protection warranty but would it apply to my winter tires? I'm guessing it only applies to the OEM ps2's but I thought it was worth a shot asking.

Talk to your SA. Technically, if the dealer sold you the tires they should be covered.

i bought the same thing - i just didn't want to deal with road hazard anymore with the wonderful nj roads....

my guy told me that it covered anything that is on the car (i asked specifically about this) aftermarket rims included. he said you won't be able to get the exact same tires but they'd replace either both rears or both fronts, with what they have in stock, if need be (only if the tread is off by enough).

i haven't tested this yet and to be honest i never hope to have to

i would read the fine print for your tire/ rim protection warranty. i know they will replace the tires if they aren't your original set but similar in kind (might have to be above a certain tread depth as well). This works so long as you experience a "road hazard" with your tires.

+1 to warranty, punctured one of my tires and had it replaced for free

i'm too lazy and its too cold this morning to get the specifics out of the car. IIRC below a certain tread depth they pro-rate the tire (they arn't going to give you a new set for free if the tire was bald for example). I think the best they will replace them with are PS2's or conti's depending on what they have in stock that day.

they told me it would cover any set of wheels and tires

but after doing more research and looking on the forums I am cancelling mine

they charged me $1130+9.75% tax

I'm canceling and getting it credited back towards my lease

I had it on my 335i before at $700 and it was worth it

but yeah...

ask the FINANCE manager, he should know more about it than the SA

I've had one wheel and two tires replaced under the insurance. The cost is minimal considering what you get for no max payout.

Yes you are right

But when you can get a set of 4 oem wheels and tires for under 2k...

You would need to have 3 rims and tires replaced to even out

you would save money on your third (each oem tire and cost of labor is around $450 - 500 at the dealership) replacement tire. how many puncture tire do you think you will have in 5 years?
can't decide if the insurance is worth it. i got it for peace of mind.

Well why would anyone purchase a tire at the dealership and pay their ridiculous mark up on the tire and the labor?

Tirerack IMHO sucks regarding prices, but it's still better than the dealer.....

I was referring to buying a set off of someone on the forums in the mid 1000s as a back up

I needed 3 rims and 9 tires on my 2008 550i. Kind of glad I had wheel/tire coverage.

I needed 2 rims and 4 tires on my 2008 535i over a period of 3 years. I also had coverage.

BMW covers wheels and tires, supposedly only if they were purchased through the service dept. However, they don't check that closely. I had my winter Pirellis covered although they were purchased from TireRack.

And for a whopping $2050 CDN, I still bought the coverage for 5 years on my M3.

BMW Wheel & Tire warranty is well worth it unless you live in Germany and drive the Autobahn all the time.

One ZCP wheel costs $865 + tax and the tire is $400. It's paid for itself right then and there.

Also - OP - the insurance does NOT cover aftermarket wheels. Only OEM. Read the fine print and discuss with your dealer. Tires are a different story, but do you expect BMW to pay for a $1,500 rim that's not OEM - clearly not.

I think it might be worth it if you didn't have to buy tires through the dealer. They might not check, but their tire prices are ridiculous.

Anyhow, I usually go through america's tire and have them price match tirerack. Their tire insurance which covers repairs and replacements is like $15 per tire, but I never get it.

Yeah if you're going to be buying through the dealer... the insurance definitely comes in handy

In all fairness, I was having my house completely renovated and a lot of the damage was probably caused by stray nails, screws and metal shards.

So this coverage. I have it as well, I'm just wondering what does it cover. Because I had actually hit a curb slightly and it cause a nice "half-wheel-rash". Would that cover my damage that I have? Also, I have 20,000KM on my m3 and my tires are going bald very soon would that be covered? Or do I have to wait until a certain mileage?

Technically, it should only cover road hazard damage to wheels and tires - most commonly nails, screws, and potholes. Curb rash isn't covered, nor is regular wear and tear on your tires.

However, saying that, the "new" Canadian coverage (not sure as of what date) does include one freebie wheel in the first 12 months (or maybe it's 24 months), no matter how it was damaged.

And don't go hammering a nail into your bald tires... there has to be a certain minimum tread depth for it to be eligible for replacement.
