Do it. Its a great account for short term savings. I have had one for 3-4 years. No minimums, no fees, etc. although the rate 5 months ago was 4.75

You may be able to find other high yield savings accounts with higher yields, but I doubt they will have the overall flexibility. ING Savings Account FTW!

Cool! short term is what I am looking for right now.... Since I dont have a lot of $ to put into saving. My MaMu was offering 3.5% (1st 6mo then 3.somthing after 6th mo) savings.

HSBC has one for 3.75, similar account. E-trade, which is what I have, is at 3.30 but changes fairly frequently. Crazy how in November the rate was 5.50% but still, these are all very good.

WAMU online savings 3.30% no minimum balance. open it online but do all your banking inside the branch.

The WAMU account you mentioned (online saving) has 1st 3 months of 3.5% APY then becomes 3.3% after right? I was deciding on that one and the Orange saving by ING.

HSBC 3.5% -

E-Trade 3.3% -

No 1st 6 months this, after 6 months that deal going with these, all consistent rates, but any Fed decision may alter that for better or worse.

nope. well i opened mine a few months ago. it was just 3.3% all across the board. you have to open the online checking as well. i just put $5 in there and never touched it.

i'd rather do this than wait a few days for HSBC or ING to transfer money to me when it's an emergency.

Where the prime rate is now, all HYSA yields will be low. They will come back though.

It basically says that you've previously been nailed for failure to report interest income and are being required by the IRS to have the bank withhold taxes for you, as opposed to having to pay them at tax time.

That looks like a great resource, but the post date for that data was Nov 2007. Rates have changed, therefore, the data is not current
