There are people who didn't like the "rasp" of the E46 M3...
To each their own.
I love the sound of the V8 in the current M3's but I think it's waaaaay to early to judge the prototype exhaust sound...

Looks ok, from what I can see.

If they don't make a sedan, I will be looking elsewhere.....

And people wonder why BMW (and other companies) like to keep pre-production products hidden from the public until they are ready. People are so quick to judge.

Imagine if the first M3 prototype leak was a drawing on a napkin:

"What?? The next generation M3 will be made out of paper?? That's it, I'm moving onto Porsche!"

I'll wait for the finished product to pass judgement. But yeah, it's not likely to sound nearly as good as the S65.

I would not like for every M3 to sound the same or very similar especially since the engine will be completely different.

With that said, I loved the sound in the new clip. Pretty loud and very different from current car.

Speaking of Porsche, according to this article:

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/27/p...ed-turbo-engi/

They are working on smaller displacement turbocharged engines for use in the 911 later this generation. Of course, the GT3 may still remain N/A.

Dunno what has gotten into people.. maybe it's 335 owners coming out of the woodwork.. but that car sounds terrible. Not that I expected anything else from a turbocharged car, but it feels like the final confirmation that the good days are over.

Ya it's loud... too bad that's all exhaust. Sounds pretty JDM to me. Blech.

While I agree with you, I do think some leaks are intentional to gauge basic reactions. For instance, if a photo were leaked and the public was unanimous in its dislike for the hood design, then I am sure BMW will take those reactions back to their designers to see if design changes should be made.

I think I'll actually drive the new M3 myself, not listen to a Youtube clip, before I pass judgement on the car. I'll be surprised if the only thing that doesn't get better on the next M3 is the exhaust note and that's not a deal breaker for me. If that's a deal breaker for anyone else, well, goodbye...

The current V8 sounds like pure sex. I love the way it bellows.

I heard the video, a few times actually, and I too agree that the PROTOTYPE exhaust sounds horrible. Then again, thats why it's the PROTOTYPE.. remember, for those of us who followed the F10 M5 build and release, the spy videos around the ring made the car sound like shit... recent videos/pictures/sound clips prove otherwise... I'm sure we'll all say something different once we test drive it and/or see it on the road for ourselves when it hits the streets of America.

Woohoo
believe me , i am a M3 fanatic but i dont think the new version will outperform our v8 based on the new m5 and the new 535. its a shame that the new 535 is 7 tenths of a second slower than the previous generation and although it looks great it will get its doors blown off by the new a6 audi.
as for the sound, the bmw headline talks about the sound of the f80 m3. i dont need to wait, it doesnt sound like my m3 sedan. hopefully it will perform better and faster but thats a tall order. with all manufacturers raising the bar i will move to either the porsche or mercedes amg if the new m3 doesnt break the 4 second barrier. look at that GTR under 3 seconds to 60 and under 100 grand. so come on bmw turn it up !

For all you guys who say it's a prototype, can you name a 6 cylinder that sounds as good as a V8? Forget about sounding better than a V8; that's not going to happen.

If you go to the F10 site and read on the "S"63 V8TT, BMW had to use the stereo speakers to enhance the sound so it wouldn't sound like a 4 banger. That's just sad.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I don't like the sound and look! I love the hood on our current M3 and sound of S65 is pure sex! But again, these are just judgements based on this video.
It is funny how all the regular 3 series users love the sound and look of the new m3, but most of current M3 owners are dissapointed.
