Finally got a chance to open it up a little today.
Driving down to the North Shore on Oahu, I was behind some slow cars on a two lane road which leads traffic in and out of the North Shore. I decided to move into the oncoming lane and punch it to pass 2 cars. All I could say was OMG! It got up to about 8000 RPM but I'm not sure what gear I was in. One second I was going 45 and then next I knew I was going 85 and passing those to cars. I had to let off before I even passed the cars because the acceleration was almost scary! I enjoyed my drive so much, I decided to just keep driving all the way around the island until I got back home. It was a nice scenic drive along the North Shore of Oahu watching the waves crash in as the winter surf season starts. We even passed a pro contest going on at Sunset Beach where traffic slowed to a crawl.
You guys on the mainland with wide freeways and long straight roads are so damn lucky. I would love to be able to do open up that engine more than once a month.

Have you finished your break in period already? I'm at about 800 miles after having the car for nearly a month.
Sometimes I curse living on this little island, there just aren't that many places to go. I was on the North Shore on Saturday morning, but not in the BMW. Nice surf! |

Ahhhh but you guys have nice warm weather and beautiful scenery all year long. Snow season is all but here in CT, and has been here in many places to the north, leaving you with two choices. Park the car until April, or take it out when the road is clear and subject your car to the sand and salt and small gravel they spread all over the roads.
Winter roads DESTROY cars. I'm struggling to get thru the break in before the cover goes on it for the winter. Enjoy that beautiful place you live. |

I'm not knocking it, I'm glad every day that I live here. It's a great place to own a convertible.
I just wish there were more driving options. 50 mile commute? Ouch! That's like potentially 1.5-2 hrs of driving time here! Mine's 6 miles and it's 30 minutes. |

You hit it right on the nose. My commute is about 45 minutes one way on a good day. If traffic is bad, 1 hr.

+1 You [the OP] may yearn for long straights in Bayern or Montana, but to drive around Oahu (and I have) in an M-car must surely be sublime.
Revel in your rare treat

You'll have to excuse the Hawaii crowd here. There are just so few of us here that we get all exited when we see other locals on the forums. It's not like socal where every other person on the forum is from there!

I don't know about this. Beautiful sunsets, calm freeways (by comparison to Southern California), wonderful weather, bikinis wherever you go. I don't think you have it that bad in Oahu!

Man, that's exactly why I would love to live in Hawaii.
"Ok honey, I'm going to pick up some milk and drive in a circle around the whole island really quick." I would love to do that! |

Just because we can't drive 100+ 90% of the time doesn't mean its any less fun to drive. In fact you could make the argument that you shouldn't be driving an M or exotic anywhere in the US because there is nowhere in the states that you can legally drive 100+ either with the exception of a track of course.

Add another M3 owner to the list in Honolulu. Picking her up from the dealer tomorrow.
Can't wait to get some miles in her to get through the break in period. I figure I'll do some around the island driving. Maybe I'll see you around. I've seen some ISFs in town. Nice cars also.
