It's gonna be -25C tomorrow morning

I had some left over 10W60 from the oil change last spring and some left over 0W40 from my oil change last month. I shook both containers just to see how they differ in terms of viscosity.

The 10W60 essentially felt like sludge whereas the 0W40 swooshed around the container fine.

I'm not claiming to be smarter than BMW engineers but, I think I feel better about my car tomorrow morning running on 0W40. For the very short commute that I have, the 0W40 will be operating closer to the M3's ideal oil viscosity than the 10W60.

Garage List
I am with you on the 0/40 in Canadian Winters. Although I do have a garage, the car sits outside during the day and will be frosty cold tomorrow.

My car sits outside for most of the winter and ironically is inside at work. I am still running 10w60. Car starts up fine, but I give it a decent warm up and drive it like granny essentially all the way to work.

Nevermind that it's uphill to get out of my laneway and it doesn't get plowed... Really considering storing it next year and getting a winter car.

The warm up is sooooooooo long in this car, nevermind the stupid oil sensor which also takes forever in this weather to register a reading.

You guys need to get an oil pan heater. Not only does it heat up the oil but the entire engine bay will be warmed up.

Oil pan heater looks pretty good, any adverse effects to the oil pan? I'm guessing you just glue this to your oilpan and it will heat up as you plug it in?
