Better Exhaust
Does anyone have any recommendations on after market exhausts? It would be nice to get a bit more V8 burble. Do BMW do anything themselves?
Thanks |

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=165145 Gives you all the info on most systems Also check out you tube videos to hear what they sound like. I put on a Remus sport muffler, sounds great not to noisy. Remus makes the schnitzer system, which would be what BMW would sell you. If you want more, do X Pipe and HFC's. I would go Fabspeed with the Remus muffler, or if you have the money, Go Akrapovic. Isn't too noisy and makes good HP gains |

Despite the Highlander reference ("There can be only one!"), there is a huge disparity in exhausts. You need to decide what you want to do.
If you are looking for max power and performance, then you are going to want to replace the entire system, not just the mufflers. That's going to mean high performance cats (or deleting them), new pipes, etc. Titanium will probably be involved. You'll spend, easily, over $6k doing all that, probably more. If you're looking for a modest power bump but more sound, then a muffler swap is probably what you're looking for. There, it depends on what you want. If you want the Italian-Ferrari sound, you can go that route. If you want "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" grunt, you can do that too. Prices are all over the place, and I think most systems are way over priced. I chose a Borla exhaust - it really sounds mean at low rpm's, but it is fairly quiet and livable over 2500 rpm. Every one is different, but I didn't want to spend $4k on a muffler. Borla came in at $1500, installed. The problem is that people all say, "Find M3's with new exhausts, listen to them, then decide." That's easy to do if you live in LA, where M3's are plentiful. They are non-existent where I live, and I'm not going to fly to LA just to listen to cars. The YouTube videos don't really convey what they sound like.

I totally agree... you should go out and listen to a few systems.... they can be very pricey....myself personally I found the Akra to be the best for me... the sound, look and weight.
But search around!! Quote:

you can get the Dinan and maintain your factory warranty
and it can be installed at the dealer but not sure if the sound will be to your liking or not |

How close is the sound of the Eisenmann to the Remus Sport? I am leaning towards the Remus as some have said that is somewhat similar to the sound that I liked on my RS4, deep with a little bit of burble, slightly louder than stock. I had kind of wondered what an RS4 exhaust might sound on the M3.

Mine was Daytona Grey, wife was on me for selling it, and I really regretted after the fact until I got the M3. I remember getting mine day of release, which I think was something like 6/03/06, my VIN number was like #122. Now in hindsight I realize how epic the RS4 and M3 are and how many mediocre cars there are that are good, but don't quite measure up. This has been a good medicine to keep me in one car for a while.

Remus Sport and Eisenmann Sport are very similar in sound output. They are designed to make the car a bit more pronounced but are pretty benign in terms of the overall sound release.

OP if you go with a rear section only, unlikely you would have any warranty issues anyway, but the Dinan warranty would be nice if you go for a full system. |

Vanguard exhaust FTMFW.
It is really light, I have a fractured wrist and i was still able to hold the exhaust with my arm in a cast. Its amazing. The exhaust note is great. I cruised around the entire day with windows down and music off. Sound level is in between the Eisenmann Race and Sport. Perfect for me because the sport was too quiet, and the race was too loud. cheers! I talked to my SA, and he said as long as you dont mess with your Cats, it shouldn't affect your warranty. But you should check with your own SA first just to be safe. If anything goes wrong with my engine, I'm still going to take off the exhaust before I bring it in. Can never be too safe right

What about the Eisenmann Race, as a girl I find it to be perfect, yes you can hear it but why buy an exhaust that blends in and is barely more pronounced than stock. I think the sport is fine but went with the race and do not regret it.

Eisenmann race is a solid system, I love the sound but exhausts are very subjective. One person's loud is another person's mild.

Sounds like your describing the Gintani Sport system.
