How often do you see other sports cars?
Kind of a silly question, but here it is: where do you live and how often do you see the types of cars typically discussed on this forum?
I used to live in a pretty wealthy area of Detroit (Farmington Hills/Bloomfield Hills/Birmingham) but only rarely saw any "fancy" cars beyond an occasional Porsche 911. Since moving to the Bellevue area, outside Seattle I've seen: Yesterday, at the grocery store near my house, there was an S5 and a GT3 parked right next to eachother and my M3 just a few cars away (This is what got me thinking about this). On the way home last Thursday, I was passed by a Ferrari 360 Modena. Week before that I was at a stop light and a Gallardo pulled up next to me (bit humbling). Ford GT at the Blockbuster near my house. I see Bentley's and Aston Martin's daily. |

Depends on where you live and this is why people's perspective is sometimes so different. I live in a semi-rural small town in Eastern Oregon, population about 15,000, maybe 50,000 in the whole county. My M coupe is most likely the only one within at least 150 miles of me. Upcoming M3 will most likely be the same, for awhile at least. I have not seen an M3 newer than 5 years old anywhere around here in the 10 years I've lived here. I saw a Ferrari drive through town last year. That definitely got my attention. An occasional garden variety 'vette is about it around here, lost in a sea of pickups and SUV's.

HEY bud. Fellow MI man. I live in bloomfield hills and I think its really the weather that keeps people from getting sports cars. There are tons of x series, range rovers, and cayennes.

Here in a little town in Belgium, there is an older M3,some 911"s and once and a while, another M3 passes by. But it all depends on where you live.
When I drive to Knokke, there are Bentleys, Rolls, Ferrarri's,... A normal Porsche would made you look silly |

Ive seen Bugatti Veyron's twice, both with dealer tags though.
One of my customers (im in the restaurant business) has a Carrera GT. Others have Ferrari 599s, GT3's, C4S's are common as are Bentlys. Seen a GT2 once. I dont even pay attention to the astons anymore. Its sad cause I used to really drool over them. Not trying to be an asshole here, just the nature of where I'm at.

Live in central NJ, BMWs are fairly common, although mostly 3s and 5s. Most Porsches are Caymans and Boxsters, some 911s. Every once in a while you'll see a Ferrari or Lambo driving down Route 1. Central Jersey's decently wealthy, but not to the extent that all have the cars you've listed.

In the parking lot at my work, there's another e92 M3, several e46 M3s, at least one M5, occasionally one Tesla, several Porsche 911s (or cars that look like 911s), and so forth. No Ferraris or Lambos.

Thanks for the responses. I think some misunderstood my original question; I may have phrased it poorly. The question wasn't really whether you *ever* see these cars, but are they common? Back in Michigan I saw a Lambo or Ferrari from time to time, but it was a fairly unusual event. Here, half the time I go to the grocery store I'll park next to an AMG or M6 or pass an Aston Martin on the mile drive there, etc.
I'd guess one out of every 50-60 cars I see one is something notable, be it a Aston, Bentley, M6, Lambo, Ferrari. I probably saw most of those cars in Michigan, but it was more like 1 out of every 500-600 cars. That's what's so weird to me (since moving to this area). This may have something to do with it (about 10 minutes from me). lol: http://www.parkplaceltd.com/ That's what I'm curious about. I'm still envious of the people regularly seeing Veyron's, though. I have yet to see even one, though there's at least one Enzo in these parts. |

This difference in geography affects lots of other subjects also. For instance, I cringe anytime I read someone here talking about going to the dealer to have the air pressure checked in their tires, or to change wheels (with tires already mounted), or to add a half quart of oil. Then I bite my tongue and try to remember that some people in the city may not have a garage. Not that you need a garage to do any of that, but I digress. Not to mention the fact that my dealer is 200 miles away. Some more subjects that geography affects is parking, and security. I see all the comments about parallel parking, bumps and scrapes on the bumpers, dings on the doors, PDC, etc. Just don't relate. And really don't relate to worrying about my car getting stolen or broke into all the time. So anyway, not to change the subject, just pointing out that this is all about geography and there are huge differences between many of the places that we all live.

I have followed a veyron down North Street and saw another pulling into the dealership. Miller Motorcars. I have seen the enzo, most likely Tommy Hill's, but can't confirm it was him. I have seen Ralph Lauren in his GT2 though. All these people are very unassuming, which is refreshing. Most of the wealthiest people are the kindest. You live in Westport? Sorry to hear about Paul Newman.
