Hey guys,

My M3 is going to be used primarily at the track (HPDEs and airstrip roll-on events) and I'm looking for the best tire for this dual-purpose. Will likely never see rain.

I've got 255/35/19F and 275/35/19R Mich PSS which are nice for all around driving but still have trouble at the track when they get really hot and don't have enough grip to prevent wheel spin on a 40-50mph roll-on.

Looking at R888's and I see they only have 265/30/19F and 295/30/19R as a possible fit but this may be too wide for the comp package wheels to handle.

If they can't fit, I'm looking at RE 11's but open to other suggestions. Just not a ton of options with the comp package wheels.

Oh, and I don't want to change wheels as I like the car as a total sleeper.

Using 19" wheels on the track greatly reduces the number of track tire options/sizes...

If you want "streetable" r-comps in 19" sizes:
Michelin PSC+ (245/265 BMW OEM)
Toyo R888
Dunlop Street Maxx Race (currently only have 255/295 sizes)
Pirelli P-Zero Corsa ($$$$$)

If you want "non-streetable" r-comps in 19" sizes:
Hoosier R6
BFGoodrich R1

I believe there are a few race slicks that are available in 19" sizes. You can buy new or "take off" (used but still have life left in them) race slicks.

Your other option is to use street tires from the "extreme" performance category but you'll be leaving "time" on the track compared to r-comps (ranges could be 0.5 sec to 3-4+ sec, depending on the length and number of turns a track has).

Switching to 18" wheels would give you a larger number of tire brands, categories, and sizes to choose from.

Pss loose grip ? I was informed they are quite amazing on the track and as a daily driver. I guess it all depends on temp and driving style

It's a great all-around tire, however we have to remember that it has a 300 tread wear rating...so yes it a harder tire comparatively and will loose grip (from getting greasy) when pushed to the limit at the track.

The stock 245/265 have rolling dia's of 25.7/26.3". The Toyo R888 265/295 have rolling dia's of 25.4/26" - falls within TireRack's 0.5" delta dia compared to stock, and the F/R dia stagger isn't too far off from stock so DSC should be fine (both actually have the same delta from stock). Finally, Toyo shows that the 265 fits on a 9" wheel, and the 295 fits on a 10" wheel.

I've used a 295 PS2 on a 10" wide HRE R43 18" wheel and had zero issues plus the tire didn't look stretched...

To be honest, if you are losing grip from the PSS, you are probably over driving them. Doing this will not only chew through tires quickly, but you'll also end up slower. Most of the time that I have students that are complaining about grip, they are overdriving the tires.

R888s might be faster, and will likely tolerate the temperatures better, but focus on smoothness and not sliding the car and you'll end up going faster.

The 255/35 / 275/35 on 19" wheels typically are not too wide, usually you'll find that the overall height is the limiting factor. 265/295 is actually shorter. Should fit, no problem, but think about over time, how much you spend on tires. You might consider getting a set of 18" wheels for the track as tires will be cheaper... and you won't burn up your expensive street tires.

I shaved 2mm of the inside of my comp wheels at the rear and run 295 supersports fine on kw club sports

Curious what you mean by "over driving" the tires. I'm a noob at the track and I am not sliding/drifting around corners or anything like that which would put extra heat into the tires.

Just curious, where do you track your car in Hawaii?

I have AD08 in 265/30 295/30 on ZCPs. They fit fine. No rubbing on my coupe. I've heard they will slightly rub on a sedan.

I know the R888s run wide. Might want to compare the actual widths vs the AD08s to see if it's reasonable.

I now live in Cali full time so I go back to O'ahu to visit family/friends...usually in the winter time

From what I remember the only track there closed something like 6 years ago but don't know for sure.

Yep. Stock ZCP suspension.

There are a few threads out there discussing AD08s and ZCP. Some people have spacers and suspension as well. Reason I mention it is that AD08s run wide as well.

Cool got it. I have spacers as well so I can experiment with the fitment. I'm going to keep the stock ZCP suspension with camber plates for now.

Nice. Keep this thread updated. Once my AD08s are done I was thinking about the R888. Let us know your experiences.

Excellent thread as this is just what I have been researching on tirerack. 265/30 & 295/30 Toyo R888 on the stock ZCP wheels which have 19x9 +31 and 19x10 +25.

I have the sedan, so it should fit? But with spacers? Will read the spacer sticky now.
