M3 vs. F430

Yesterday, I was cruising down a deserted stretch of road somewhere in a hilly part of Mexico, when I came upon a red F430. Looked very purposeful, classic red with caramel interior and I think an aftermarket exhaust, because it sounded absolutely spellbinding. Had the F1 gearbox if not mistaken.

All I wanted was to get a closer look but he took it as an invitation to play, so I willingly obliged. It was of course faster than the M3, I was losing what seemed like 1 carlength every 5-6 seconds, plus another 1/2 car on upshifts. Needless to say these are approximate, I was paying attention to the road and the possibility of federales.

We then slowed down, I opened up the window and he gave it a bootfull of revs so I can sample the glorious noise, then I returned the favor just for fun. That's where our little game ended, as we closed in on traffic and it made no sense to continue.

Bella macchina. Speaks to my inner child.

F360s seem to start around $55k, F430 at well over $100k. An F360 would be attainable (...just...), but according to the recent EVO guide it is more fragile and maintenance-intensive than the F430. I wonder if the F430 is still going to go down in price in the next few years...

Last summer I got a chance to drive my uncles F430 spyder for about a week. Giving it back to him for my M3 was the most despressing thing I've ever experienced.

F430, especially the Scuderia is a kick ass car.

Well my girl now (at the time we just started hitting it off) really didn't care too much about the ferrari. I think MOST girls just dont appreciate cars like we do. anyways we took it down the shore about a nice 2 hour drive. The looks I was getting as a 22 year old in a red f430 spyder ANYWAYS. This car is an ABSOLUTE animal! I've driven M5's and other fast cars before. The HANDLING of the F430 is beyond describable. ALSO that Italian V8 sounds better than ANY V8 i've heaard. The ONLY thing I disliked about the F430 is that its still a single cluth tranny. I believe the new 458 italia comes with tru dual cluth like my DCT M. Other than that this car by far the best thing I've ever driven/heard. HIGHLY RECOMMENED DRIVING or even purchasing

A DCT M3 would have probably won.

I love the sound of Ferrari... and have gotten to drive the 430 Spyder a few years back... I just can't stand the lack of torque. Makes the M3 feel like a Big Block V8 in comparison.

Don't get me wrong... nothing like the styling, sound & complete package from Ferrari. But it'd have to be a weekend only car for me.. .and even then... I don't think I could deal with the lack of torque... I like 'short shifting' and lugging my cars around town.

Peace,
Dave

That's interesting, I had the impression it has more torque than the M3. Perhaps it's much peakier in nature than the M3 torque curve?

Anyway, this would be a weekend/track car so I don't think it would annoy me.

Yeah... my drive was 'city streets'... low rpm... and a brief stint on the hwy... so may not have been full representation.

I'd be all over an F430 if they were around $100k.

Sounds like a fun run.

Drove the Scud last year. First car I'd buy after a lottery win would still be the F430 Scuderia over anything else. The purest, rawest, sexiest car I've ever been in.
