As you might have gathered, I like a lot of the new M3, but a theres quite a lot of things I dont like lol. The rear diffuser is one of them. Here a quick chop where I tidied it up:

Not a huge fan of the rear myself, but eliminating all the openings makes the remaining shapes pretty odd and purposeless, IMO.

True. I thought that at first but now it's starting to grow on me a little. I dunno I'm just not happy with the diffuser because when I see the M3 on the road all I see is a fussy diffuser with mesh and quads stuck on the bottom. I just wanted to give it a more chunky look to match the rest of the car.

One thing is for certain though, I like the way I made the bottom of the diffuser more chunky and made it wrap around the exhausts more.

aren't the opening there b/c of aerodynamics, it helps with the downforce as air flows through the bottom then out the back flowing through the opening and not creating lift...

That's the theory. No data from BMW on how much it actually does. In race cars the whole bottom of the car is optomized for effectiveness, but it's a bit more difficult to do in production cars. The M3 has a comendably smooth underside, though.

If you delete the rear diffuser it will probably affect the aerodynamic balance at high speed. IMO, ACS has done a pretty good job on the rear of the M3. As mentioned in another thread, you can use the Remus tip instead of the ACS design.

Currently it looks a little fake and unnecessary, although I'm sure it still helps aerodynamically in some way. But why then not incorporate it on the E90?



And a lot of what's changed on the above ACS ///M3 has to do with the exhaust itself, not the diffuser, as you can clearly see the rear diff exposed even more so.

Not such a fan of that to be honest. At the moment I think it already looks flimsy and very fussy, that would make it even more so IMO. Amazing how we all have different visions for cars. Okay if we want to keep its function maybe something more like this would be better. At least it's more solid looking, less fussy and still functional:

Yeah removing that hole will affect the downforce. The diagram that was posted above are only highlighting engine covers and isn't a proper demonstration. If you were to run it through a wind tunnel the air will go over the exhaust and through that hole generating down pressure on that area in which case = Downforce.

Almost. I hid the muffler, strengthened the bottom part of the diffuser and generally made it look more solid. Look:

Why not give it something like that of the C63 or RS6, both of those has agression that tells these aren't your average run of the mill performance models when viewed from the rear. In this world where looks are everything BMW under sold the M3 short with it's end design.
