I will try Nt-O1 next. Is there a place that will heatcycle them for me first before I take delivery? I may just get them via my shop but not sure if there are stores online that offer that besides tirerack but they dont sell nt-01 |

I've used the ra1 and nitto rii 555. They are similar to nt01.
In a longer session if I push hard they can get greasy but it is a gradual degrade. Backing off a tenth or two for a couple laps get them back to temp. I would not worry about overheating them coming from the rs3. This was on a mostly stock c5 z06. I agree with what the others said: the nitto/toyo never really heat cycle out. Run them until they're corded. |

The Maxxis RC-1 is very similar to the NT01 in feel/lifespan. Obviously more grip.

Equal lifespan to NT01 on those you think? I might give them a try next. Something different.

Yes. The set I'm running has had a few heat cycle on them already (got them as take-offs from a club racer) and they're every bit as sticky as brand new NT-01s, if not more. I've put at least another 1/2 dozen heat cycles on them and they're still very consistent. I fully expect them to last as long as the NT-01s based on the wear so far.

Maxxis is a new name to me, but their website implied they've been around for decades. A little searching provided the real company name: Cheng Shin. NOW I know the tire manufacturer...I used to run Cheng Shin knobbies on my MX bike back in the mid-1970s. They were actually decent tires at the time.
OP: re NT-01 -- excellent tire to switch to. Very forgiving, will howl near/at the limits like a street tire unlike more serious R-comps, watch your hot pressures. The tire will start to skate and shudder if you let them get too high. I usually target 36psi hot with the M3 on 275/35-18/10" all around.

They definitely kick up a lot more debris. I can hear it as soon as I leave the driveway...probably create some more road rash behind wheels.

How big of a difference in performance is there between the NT05 and the NT01? The tread design looks similar, but I gather that the compound on the NT01 is stickier.
I am trying to decide what to go with on a set of dedicated track wheels. As a novice, I don't want to go with something super sticky out of the gate and therefore was planning to start with some NT05s and then go to NT01s someday. But if the difference in handling is relatively subtle and the NT01s are a better value in the long term, I might just go straight to them. Last edited by Hujan; 07-09-2014 at 02:46 PM.. |
