New Start/Stop Feature

Just picked up my new 2011 Sept. Build E92 M...WOW!!! what a vehicle! Wanted to share with all of you how well this feature works. At a complete stop the engine shuts off, the second your foot comes off the brake, the engine turns back on, no lag--instantly.

It is designed to only behave after the engine has completed it's warm up cycle, and will not work when it is extremely cold outside, or when its working to cool (or heat) the interior cabin after start up.

I'm still skeptical about what kind of wear the constant on/off of the engine will do over time, so I don't plan on using the feature; happy to find that the default option of the feature is off at engine start up.

Umm is that really a feature??... Sounds like something I would never use... Kind of seems dangerous anyway...

This feature has been available in Europe for many years, by many manufacturers
So I don't think you should worry about it from a safety standpoint

for a skeptic like me, it is nice to hear the default is stop/start deactivated.

do you turn on/off the start/stop through the idrive? or via the OBC? or elsewise?

Small button below the radio, same area where the button for raising and lower the rear sunshade is located.

IIRC: with the button: light on means auto feature is OFF, light off means auto feature is on...

And is it just me or does that seem counter intuitive? Light on should mean feature is on...

Doesnt the car consume the most fuel while starting up? I read somewhere that it was better to leave the engine on idle...rather than constantly shutting and starting up..
