Window Tinting, DOT Matrix, and Defroster Issues!!!
I had my 08 E92 M3 tinted today with F1 Pinnacle 15% tint.
The guys were an authorized dealer of Formula One window tints and they did a great job for the most part, except for the Dot Matrix portions of the windows and the defroster lines on the rear window. While driving, looking back at the rear window I noticed a fuzzy haze which is probably due to the defroster lines. It's a great tint made by F1 so I'm not sure what the problem is as it is a top grade window tint performed by an authorized dealer. I notified the dealer shortly after I discovered the fuzzy haze and they told me to wait 4-5 days and it should go away. As far as the DOT Matrix is concerned, they told me to come back in 3 days and they will push out the air bubbles and tighten everything up. Will that really work? I've been researching and discovered MAGOOPS (solution to DOT Matrix). That's my situation. Let me know what you guys think. Any advice will help. Post pics of your tints as well if you can! Cheers.

i have F1 Pinnacle too and don't have any problems with the dot matrix. There were some bubbles the first day but after a couple of days, the bubbles went away. You got it at an authorized dealer so you have a lifetime warranty. If there is a problem, they will fix it or you can go to any authorized dealer to have it fix. Hope they can fix your problem. GL

I have 3M tint and have adheasion issues with the black dots. I took it back once and they "carded" it but it still looks half a**ed. I may remove it till I find someone else.

to space ghost
did it improve even in the slightest when they carded? what i thought is if i don't see an improvement over the next 4-5 days and when they try to get the dots to appear less i might just bring it to another Formula One authorized dealer. Check out MAGOOPS. http://www.dotmatrixwindowtinting.com/
Cheers. PS post images of your tint and dot matrix situation if you can. i just took pics and will post soon.

I had my Huper done by Song's Tintmasters. Even after the carding it really didn't make a difference. I think since the Huper is thicker film, it's even harder to get it into the spaces between the dots.

Did you have any haziness or fuzziness looking through the rear window?
I just took a drive out here in Northern California (8:30 pm) and looking back at the rear window while other cars headlights are behind I can see duplication of the light coming from the headlights at ever line of defroster. I think maybe 8 duplications of the light? VERTICALLY. Let me know.

I just had my car tinted last Saturday morning with 20% 3M color stable film all the way around. The car sat in my garage, out of the sun, undriven all day Sat & Sunday. On Monday afternoon I took my finger and pushed around all the edges, especially the top of the rear window, and it made a BIG difference. I think after the glue sets for a couple days it becomes more tacky and I was able to push it down and get rid of a lot of the bubbles. It's not perfect but MUCH better. I don't think it's ever going to be perfect but my installer did a great job and I'm happy with it now. I think you're going to have to accept a small amount of bubbling around the dot matrix. Good luck.
P.S. I just looked at your photos again. Look at your last picture and the close up picture of the top of your rear window. You should be able to push on the "lighter sections" of the tint on that rear window and make them look like the darker sections. For instance you should be able to push that bubble out on the left and make the entire dot matrix section look like the bottom inch of dot matrix. Work with your fingers or a credit card from the darker section up to the top of the window pushing the air bubbles out as you go. I think that's as good as it gets. |

Sorry man but the dot matrix at the top of the rear window looks terrible imho. You should apply black vinyl on the dot matrix...looks much better.

Song's sanded my dot matrix down although I'm not sure how much it helped. But if someone took a power sander to it with a pad that was safe for the glass, I have to wonder if they wouldn't be able to remove it altogether.

There's a place next to our office that does all the tinting for Crevier BMW. They've done all my cars and it's all turned out pretty well.

If you get F1 done make sure that your installer puts a set of felt pads on the inside set (there are 2 sets) of the rubber seal for each window. Pinnacle has sent around a new notice to do this to the new BMWs so as to avoid scratching of the tint. Im taking mine back in to get re-tinted and felt pads installed this week. They are doing this free minus the cost of felt pads.
