New lens for my D800

So my birthday just passed and a couple of friends and family want to buy me a new lens for the D800 I just bought. I'm rather interested in working with video, so I'm wondering what you guys recommend. What are Nikon's best, fastest zoom lenses that would work best with video?

This; but for video, I would avoid the wide and the telephoto. 24-70 is your lens; but is a bit steep (Around $1800).

Most serious video shooters are using manual focus lenses, usually primes.

I agree with Diver, for video primes are your best bet and since video requires manual focus I would start looking at that.

Well I already have a bunch of primes (24mm f2.8, 35mm f2, 50mm f1.4), but they're loud even when I'm focusing them manually (which I do most of the time) because they're all film lenses from the 90s. Whatever type of damping or lubricant that was used when the lenses were designed has since been utterly exhausted.

I'm a big fan of this lens. I rented one with my D700 and it was great.

Try the G version of the 50mm1.4. I got it and its silent and cheap ($500)

As for the 24-70, I received it last week and barely touched it yet. I am between jobs and got very little time to do so. And the time I had was while watching the hockey game and messing around with it.

I got mine for 1341 usd shipped and its really brand new. But I consider myself lucky since I couldnt find any under $1500 when I was looking for one. The guy could have sold it as new and I would have been forced to believe him.

Geez, this guy needs two people to support his lens. On their heads, at that.

I'd be serious, too, if the buildings behind me started leaning like that.

it's the weight of that zoom lens. the forces of those two helper minions are causing a shift in the earth.

I got my D800 over the weekend and threw the first thing I had at hand on it for some test shots: 18-200mm. Mistake... This thing just embarrasses lenses like that (and I actually liked it before!)
