Extra benefit of carbon fiber roof
When I got my Escort 9500i, I installed it where my previous detector was installed, which was just above and to the left of the rear view mirror on my M coupe. However, it did not get good GPS reception and I had to move it a little to the left so I could get it more forward on the windshield so it would be out from under the roof and and frame. It worked, but just barely.. sometimes it would take awhile to lock onto a signal.
While installing said detector in my M3 coupe I noticed that it got good GPS signal no matter where it located, so I was able to tuck it up there right where I wanted, and it seems to lock onto a signal right away. I held it up to the middle of the roof and it still got good reception. So I guess carbon fiber doesn't block radio signals like metal does. |

of course not... RF signals bounce off metal (so does radar waves)... and RF will go through carbon fiber pretty much like they would go through plastic.
