Cf Oem Spoiler Installation....read!

EDIT: Did a RE-installation with Double Stick tape and it turned out just fine. It is very sturdy and I am 100% confident that it will not come off. I'm very glad that I didn't give into the betalink.

Here are some pics of the comparison to the standard spoiler and a few good shots of the aggressive angle of the spoiler which IMO is not visable from the back but only from the side. Enjoy.

NOTE!!!!!!! The double stick images are NOT how I eventually placed the tape The tape CLOSEST to the FRONT edge of the spoiler (Edge closest to the rear window) I ended up taking off and reapplying all the way to the EDGE of the spoiler. It is not visable after installation.

Hope this helps!

Tim

Yes. CF = Carbon Fiber which is the performance spoiler.

Bottom line is that the front edge of the spoiler that sits on the top of the trunk has 2mm of contact area. At first appearance it looks like it will have about 1/4 inch but after installing the spoiler the contact area is not strong enough.

My recommendation for anyone who is going to install this spoiler is to use the Betalink.

I will get some tomorrow and post pics.

Tim
some members used 3m tape and it worked fine

This is a major contributing factor.

The 1/4 inch contact point is on the edge of the trunk lid. The contact point for the front edge of the spoiler that rest on the top of the trunk lid is essentially just an edge. There is no flat surface on this edge.

This makes no sense... You can not just use betalink on the back edge...that's for sure. One high speed run and bye bye spoiler! If the spoiler is positioned properly, there is a flat area that makes contact with the trunk on the front edge. I think the key is making sure you put the tape VERY close to the edge of the spoiler.

Chris is right. You have to put the tape VERY close to the edge of the spoiler. I realized this after re-doing the tape when it didn't make contact with the trunk. I did not use betalink to glue my spoiler. 3m double sided tape is strong enough.

If I remember correctly, that front edge has a little bump. You need to place the tape in of that bump. Literally on the edge of the spoiler. If you tape behind the bump, it will not make contact. I hope this helps.

Ds tape for me too. Looks perfect so far, hopefully it holds. I also put tape on the very edge in the bump.

I may have to try it again with the tape. I did put it on the edge but it may have been too cold to make good contact.

I used 3M double sided tape with no issues at all. I've had my spoiler on for at almost 5,000 miles and several months now.

how did you take out your oem spoiler?
And... do you have pictures of the double side tape placement at the end of the spoiler?

Yep...I believe that GAP (General Accepted Principle) is Betalink for the rear and 3m tape for the front.

used betalink for all aspects of the install. it is very easy to use and wipes away clean with no problem within a reasonable time.

3M tape works fine if applied properly all the way to the edge. The bonus is you don't have to risk breaking the lip in half if you ever want to remove it.

used goo gone and dental floss. Fish line works too.

The tape can only go in one area to make contact with the trunklid. That is where you put tape.

hold the spoiler up to the trunklid without tape and you will see where to apply the tape.

Just remember to NOT pull off the protective backing from the edge of the spoiler that is closest to the back window.

Only pull off the backing on the surface that touches the edge of the trunklid. This way you can line up the spoiler perfectly without the spoiler touching the top of the trunklid before it makes contact on the back of the trunklid.

Just peel the back of the protective tape off the edges and make sure you can still grab them to peel them off.

Yeah I don't understand the betalink at all.

real deal 3m tape looks MINT, no gap, its firm, and looks perfect plus its removeable if you want to sell.

I did it last night - love mine so far.
