Drifting...how to???

Headin to the track Saturday.(3 mile 13 turn road course) What is the proper techinique for drifting??...if one were so inclined to do so.

Speed?..e-brake?..best gear to be in?..

I have been driving in snow my entire adult (and I use that word loosely) life and understand the dynamics and throttle control on a slippery surface, but not so confident on dry pavement.

All the videos I have seen make it look so easy and fun...

Looking for real advice from "drivers" of M3's not posers....

thanks

Are you talking about taking a corner going sideways and lighting it up? OR just doing donuts and wildly spinning the wheels with no directional control?

You are kidding, right?

Are you going to take a $70 car and throw it into a high speed slide based on information gleaned from an internet forum?

PT Barnum said it best.

While no expert at this (I'M NOT LIABLE FOR WHATEVER YOU DO TO YOURSELF OR YOUR CAR) the general idea is as soon as you get the wheels spinning, its all about rpm control + steering. Too high rpm's and you will spin out and embarrass yourself too little and your wheels will get traction and toss you in whatever direction your facing (much like a bike high siding except the car wont buck you off). Tons of practice on a beater maybe is a good idea. Don't go out and do something like that with your M if you are not 100% confident with the vehicle. I know I wouldn't in my M. Go to a school. I'm sure there are some schools that have these HUGE parking lots that teach you these sort of things.

Because wrecking a 58K car is better than wrecking a 70k car? lol How much you paid isn't the point. The person that said that just doesn't want to see you destroy your car or hurt yourself.

You don't because only retards and ricers think that drifting through a corner is actually faster.

Unless this is a drifting track day, they will probably not like you out there trying to drift every corner.

You know, if you want to learn about drifting, you should attend one of the winter driving schools held up in your parts. Various car clubs offer them every winter. They let you loose on a frozen lake and you learn car control under controlled circumstances. I used to have a blast in empty parking lots around Minneapolis after a good snow.

Hey, are you going to Brainerd with Northstar? If you can drift a car through turn 1 at 150 mph you got bigger cahones than I'll ever hope to have.

I wish I could be there. They are a really nice bunch of people. Tell Eric, Jorge and Tubby Butterman (very fast 330i ZHP) that I said hi.
