Damage to steering wheel using Lexol (pics)

This was my first time using Lexol on my leather seats/steering wheel and I was overall very pleased with the results and ease of use!

Unfortunately, I discovered several marks on my steering wheel (see link) after cleaning my steering wheel with the Lexol cleaner. I did apply a decent amount of pressure on the foam eraser in that area but nothing overly aggressive.

The damage appears to be recessed in the steering wheel, which leads me to believe that the damage was existing and that the dirt and grime masked them until Lexol removed the contaminants. Either that or the Lexol eraser sponge was too abrasive and removed the leather coating. Any thoughts?

That just looks like regular steering wheel wear to me, how many miles does your car have?

I had a feeling that might've been it, but the steering wheel was pristine before the cleaning.

Car has 86k with 50k on the steering wheel so far.

I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at in those photos, but that looks like fairly typical leather patina & texture.

When you say foam eraser, are you talking about one of those Mr. Clean Magic Erasers? Those are slightly abrasive and I would NEVER use that in a car except as a last resort...especially on a leather surface. I fear that's what did you in, not the Lexol.

Glad to see you're still kicking around here.

I'm referring to the patch in the middle of the picture. Looking again at the pic, it looks like there might be some light discoloration in the middle when compared to the left-side of the steering wheel. Might have removed some coating with the eraser or maybe just the lighting.

The texture does resemble one of those Mr. Clean Magic erasers but I trusted the product to not damage the leather since it was made for cleaning leather.

If you truly think it removed some of the dye (very possible) or damaged the topcoat, I would go to an auto upholstery shop and have them look at it. The wheel might need to be redyed or rewrapped.

Probably just scrubbed all the dirt and hand grease out of those pores that was filling them before
