Well, the M Performance is definitely overall less bassy than most others. Innotech has a screamer, and I just got turned onto MRF which sounds damn good too.

The Akrapovic Slip on is quite a bit louder, especially at cold start. I found the BMW Performance exhaust to be quieter than the slip on... except over 5000 rpm.
(Poseurs who drive their cars in D2 all the time and never go over 4500 rpm will find the Akrapovic a lot louder. Let that sort the wheat from the chaff. |

I personally like the sound of my performance exhaust. M3Power55 feel free to hit me up if you wanted to drive down and hear it. My car only has 800 miles on it so I am still breaking in the exhaust too. Someone else said it is ugly. I don't think so.

Check out the MRF setup. From what I can hear from the videos, it offers a high pitch and has some nice rumble.

For me, at least on my E90, I felt that the BMW performance exhaust was too quiet. It was about right volume-wise with x pipes, but too raspy for my taste. I'm hoping the Eisenmann hits the right balance! |

that was a review from someone compared to my AKRA with xpipe....
not sure if you heard mine in person but i will guarantee you that AKRA sounds so much better than the Mperformance... M = sounds more like a V8 mean sound, sounds like my old OEM modded exhaust. VERY VERY SIMILAR. AKRA = tone it down meaning getting rid of that V8 sound and has a little rasp aggressive exotic sound to it. Bro im in Ktown area and OC so if you want to hear it let me know... also im usually at cars and coffee inrvine every saturday so if your down to go come by. I had given a ride to previous M3 owners and without a doubt they went with AKRA. Better tone? everyone has a different opinion when it comes to sounds. i hate the V8 rumble sounds it always remind me of a hemi or some american cars with AKRA it just sounds totally different.

The Akrapovic and the Innotech sound nothing alike. I think the problem is video quality. The Innotech is muuuuuch more exotic sounding without the flat tone the Akrapovic has. The Eisenmann Sport is the only thing that I've heard that is similar to the Innotech, but it's not really that similar. |

I'll just throw in my 2 cents and call it a day: Get Remus Race mufflers and edited: Remus connecting pipes and call it a day. It's a very nice, high-pitched, yet non-raspy sounding muffler, very much in stark contrast to my current Akrapovic Evolution system. I have to say that while I prefer Akrapovic for performance reasons (full system + ESS Akra ECU tune), I vastly preferred the Remus system for sound.

I thought it wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. Noticeable if you are driving your car in utter silence, but just by turning the radio on you'd eliminate a majority of the noise. Then it came down to increasing the volume.
Drone is really subjective though. I mean, compared to full Akra, it droned more, but IMO Akra is a completely silent exhaust system anyways. With no noise comes no drone, right? And again, like I said, drone and sound is all subjective. |

I dont know, to me unfortunately, the M-Per-Ex is too pricey for a muffler that needs work. 1st, thermal coating to kill the looks and 2nd, you have to dick around with paint remover for when the inside of the tips start peeling.

OP, the best advice that I could give you is to come out to one of our bi-weekly 626 dinner meets (since you're SoCal). Eric (spdy330) has an M performance exhaust, I have a full Akrapovic Evolution, and Steven (ooowowitsstev) has Eisenmann Race. If we can get Rene (Psylight) to come out (he rarely comes out but he does sometimes), then he has Remus Race. Hard to find a sampling of exhausts in 1 location to beat that.

In NY, the closest you come to a performance exhaust is a rusty flowmaster on a shitbox '86 IROC-Z
