Sport chrono is a good thing. Adaptive seats are subjective. You can live without them. Nav is up to you. Bose is actually good to have. Park assist keeps you from backing over little dogs. Classic C wheels look better then the usual lobster claws, imho, but they aren't an expensive option ($400 maybe?) Factory sport exhaust is, eh. You can always get a Fabspeed or other non-OEM (and still not void warranty, most Porsche dealers seem better with this than BMW.) All the rest is pure cosmetic fluff and/or nothing you can't live without. And that's the downside to Porsche options on the 997. It's this idea that for a gazillion extra $$ you can make your P-car unique. And unfortunately, it also shows up in the resale price. Is it a CPO? That's important. And what exactly is the asking price? If you don't care about a CPO, then think about going private. Dealer cars are usually lease returns. A private sale, even with higher mileage, from an enthusiast with all the service records, sometimes can be a better choice. If you decide you're dead set on a P-car, then take your time looking for the right one. Do research, become informed. Subscribe to Rennlist, etc.. |

QUOTE] It's a private sale but the way the trade is done, I could go through a dealer so I get credit for the tax I already paid on the M3 which is significant here in Canada. The car only has 4000km on it as it was driven by a businessman who was away in Asia a lot on business. Now, considering here in Canada we get ripped off on our cars on MSRP ( 2008 MSRP on a base M3 here is $7390 inlcuding fright,PDI) I paid around $72000 CAD + 15% tax on my car. They are asking $92000 for the C4S but I think they will go down some on the price. The good thing is if I can trade for the M3, I only payu tax on the difference in price of the two cars which is a big savings, close to $7000. I know it's a smarter move just keeping my M3 for a few years and trade it in then. Can't decide...... |

Yes, a big price difference: you can almost just about get a new base CS for $92000 here. I think you should hold on to your M. Unless you are absolutely unhappy with the M. I don't know, but $92000 seems pretty hefty for a MY06 997. Although I don't quite understand: you paid $72000 + 15% tax and they will give that all back to you in the trade? Have you compared what the going rate is for similar 997s in Canada? I can't really help you because I'd be basing it all on the US market. Yes, the tax savings is a consideration. But I think the bigger consideration is do you want this specific car? Have you been shopping for other 997s? And maybe you should first decide whether or not a P-car is really what you want. Don't be too hasty. They will always be out there. Good luck! |

Keester, this sounds very much like an impulse type of decision. I'd wait, and drive around the M3 some more while you figure out if a more dedicated performance car as a DD is really what you want. If it is, figure out which one would be best for you (obviously, there are many different models and years of P-cars and there are other performance cars to boot). Test drive a few. If you do indeed want a 997, specifically a C4S, this doesn't sound like a particularly spectacular deal. I think you could find better, especially when the new DI motors come out on the '09 version. I think that'll cause the price to drop pretty significantly on current 997's. So, again, my recommendation is to be patient, and in the meantime, like Stickypaws suggested, figure out if this is really what you want.
Stickypaws, sounds like you have a nice specimen of a 993. |

Again, depends on if you need the extra seats. Both great cars, with the M3 more practical and C4S more sporty.
Many here prefer the C2/C2S but keep in mind that C4/C4S come std with limited slip dif and wider track, where as on the C2/C2S it's an option. |

Nope, I wouldn't trade if I was gaining $10,000 from the deal. I like my M3.

I would do it but haggle the price down. The new shape is out and the resale of the 2006 is definitely gonna take a knock. I say do it for 8-10000 more!

I had one before the M3.. If money is no big deal then go for it. I think every Male car nut needs to own a 911 one time in there life. Its a rule

Actually, the C4/S just has a center LSD, the front and rear diffs are still open. 05 - 08 997's don't have an option for an LSD (except Turbo & GT cars). 09+ you can get a rear LSD if you want (it's about time). Only the C4/S comes in widebody, you can't get that with the C2/S. I know it's not a huge difference but I really love the look of the widebody C4's, I wish you could get that as an option on the C2.

LSD on the Cayman would be , too. The 3.8 in the Cayman would really be the thing; bye bye 997. Widebodies look great (993 is the same turbo wide body), but have higher drag coefficient. Slightly lower top end, but in the real world ? Maybe slightly better gas mileage, too w/o a WB. But, yep, I like the widebody look, too. But only people following me get to enjoy it, I never see it RadJoe, don't forget to check the option box for the speed yellow safety belts to match the yellow calipers with the optional PCCB. p.s., the "twin" pipes on the S is actually one pipe with two tips. So the pipes on the S and the non S are really the same, they just look different. Thank you Porsche. |

LOL! Do I have a choice between yellow calipers/belts and red calipers/belts? Any other fashion colors available?

no way...we had a couple of C4Ss at Laguna Seca today and the only P cars that I would get over an M3 are 997 GT3 or 997 GT3RS the 997TTs are not that great on the track
