Remove dealer ad plates from new car, legal or not?

I was wondering does anyone in know if it is legal in California to remove the temporary dealer advertisement plate and frame while I wait for the real plates to arrive? So essentially the back of the vehicle would be clean.

Would you get pulled over for this? I'm thinking not all cops know which are new cars without seeing a dealer ad plate on the back.

I agree that while the dealer ad plate is meaningless and not illegal to remove, it does give the cops some excuse for why you dont have a ca license plate

Yeah, I was afraid someone would tell me this. I hate giving cops an excuse to pull me over, unless cops turned out to be a hot babe!

a compromise would be to just leave the Frame on...if they're not complete nitwits, they'll get the point

btw, whats wrong with leaving it on? its only 4-6weeks or so...goes by in a heartbeat...i drive with mine still on

Take it off. But you'll probably get pulled over. I kept my C class dealer plates on for over a year.. Sshhhhh

Flip it around and expose only the back of it. That's what I always do. No need for free advertising unless I'm getting paid!

I threw away the dealer license frame (duh). I guess, I feel it's tacky to help the dealership advertise, unless they pay me. You know what I mean.

I don't hate them per se, but these guys try to get away with as much as they can. BMW of San Francisco. They decal the new cars and put on the dealer plates when you purchase cars from them. I had them remove the decals before leaving the lot. The nerve!

That's a really good idea, I might try that. Hopefully this won't give cops any reason to pull me over.

That's what I did too, so that it shows the plain white back side. Plus, immediately changed out the plate frame. Got the car from Beverly Hills BMW (only because they happened to have one I wanted already in their inventory) and the plate frame says "World Famous Beverly Hills BMW" and the moment I saw it, I'm going 'h0ly sh*t, that's obnoxious & pretentious.'

I had no problem running around w/ my ED euro plate for 3 months in CA, let alone running without any plate (which I also did).

Front and back yes. I was also followed by the police several times. No issue.

I honestly don't understand CA police. If you don't have a licence plate they just wave you by without batting an eye lash, but god forbid you install a cosmetic mod that violates an ordinance eg too much tint.

Where I live it's the other way around.

I had screwdrivers when i went to pick up my car from the dealership. When they gave me the keys, I pulled to park inside the dealer and removed the ad paper on the plates and those stickers they put on the trunk and the VIP decal they have on the windshield.

if its a SteveThomas BMW temp plate you must keep it on its M3post law hahaha joking. As long as you have the temp registration in the right side of the window you dont have to have any plate or frame on your car. However you may draw some attention but like above someone stated unless your driving like an idiot you wont be bothered.
