I never pay attention to what the codes are just what the option is, this clearly shows I am not a BMW nerd.

Thank God.

Looking at the Australian guide for the 2009 E92 3 series coupe, it looks like the iDrive controller does not have the multifunction buttons. Doesn't necessarily mean that other countries and/or M3s won't get it.

Are you sure? It includes DCT for the 335i. Here's the original bimmerfile post. http://www.bimmerfile.com/2008/07/04...med-for-the-3/

New screen layout looks cool... high res screen is fab... graphics look amazing! Button clutter around iDrive knob =

The whole idea of iDrive is to reduce button clutter. Why add them all again?! It seems counter to the concept of iDrive to have the controller surrounded by shortcut buttons. I, for one, am glad I'm getting the more streamlined "classic" iDrive. Of course, the same press who derided the original iDrive as "...too complicated to be useful" will probably love this new layout.

Bimmerfile's has iDrive V2 confirmed for 2009, hope we get it in the US, moreover in the US M3. I think this, along with the exterior changes, will be worth the extra wait for those of us who decided to wait it out on a gamble.

http://www.bimmerfile.com/2008/07/06/n

"We have obtained the September 2008 product marketing guide for the UK. In this guide it states a good deal of information about the upcoming release of option 609; BMW Professional Multimedia Navigation system. This document also confirms that in addition to the newly designed 7 series the 1er and 3er will also feature the new system from September onwards.

Last week we mentioned many of these iDrive features from the experiences of those who had access to the system in testing, but now we can offer up the official information.

Over the past few days we have confirmed upcoming features from official BMW announcements originating outside of the US; first the DCT in the 3er coupe (BMW Australia) and now the new iDrive (BMW UK).

While this information does not definitely mean the US or other markets will be receiving these options we have been hearing from other sources to expect these options in the Fall. BMW would need a really good reason not to offer them to its largest market in the US especially with the upcoming mid cycle refresh/ LCI (Life Cycle Impulse/ “Facelift”).ew-idrive-confirmed-for-the-09-1-and-3-series/"

No, right now it falls right into my right hand. Why would I want to reach up/out for it?

If this is featured in all 1/3's from september this must be a drop in replacement as the 1's are not getting any lifting as fare as I known. Further a wire and module(DAB,Amplifier,CD Box etc) changen normally only comes with new Models.

So if wee are lucky it should be possible to upgrade old versions to the new one (4000$) just like going from MKIII - MKIV.

This looks like it is going to be running on Windows Ce again (WMA conversion and the MAP software looks a lot like Navigon on windows CE).

Awesome...thanks for the PDF. I can't wait to see whether the M3 is getting this in 09. BMWNA will probably the last to release something because they suck so bad.

I'm guessing the new iDrive will be in the 09 M3s for everywhere but NA. I am willing to bet NA wont see the new iDrive till 2010.

My dealer has just come back to me, the M3 Coupe will have the new idrive from build week 36 (1st Sept). He has spoken to BMW UK and this is 100% confirmed.

What is your logic for this? To me it doesn't make sense as BMW will have to keep two versions of iDrive in their supply chain, one (older) for NA and another (new version) for the rest of the world. This makes manufacturing more complicated and costs more money. US buyers also typically want the latest and greatest in tech (if not everything) so I would think BMWUSA would want to offer it for '09. So it doesn't make sense from a financial, operational/logistics, or marketing perspective if you ask me.

Yeah, I'd feel better if he spoke to BMW NA and it was 100% confirmed through them.

Yes, it would only makes financial and common sense for the i-drive change to be across the board...but BMWNA sucks so I could see them blowing this one.
