While there must be a little of each affecting BMW's decision, I think they are doing it for marketshare and they needed the price to hit their volume goals.

Options 1 and 4 are contingent, so either one is descriptive.

Seriously, I think if BMW priced the M3 too much higher than that, they would have lost sales in favor of the 335i.

I'm sure it was a combination of several factors; not easy to guess one.

Yeh and if I recently bought a 335i I would be so upset.

+1, including BMW AG's expected after-hedging profit scenario.

Volume... IMO, at the end of the day, the M3 is while the others want to be. However, to get that volume that BMW wants they need to convince those customers that don't know the difference that the real deal is the M3.

Price will do that very quickly...

I am psyched that BMW came through with some reasonable pricing, but most will still cost around $65k with options. This is plenty of profit for BMW, esp when they will sell 100K of them.

The IS-F will need to be discounted almost immediately. And the RS4's value just plummeted.

I am having a little fun on an ISF thread on this board.

What is the value statement for the ISF over the M3?

Power? Nope
Handling? Nope
Engineering? Nope
Brand Cache? Nope

BMW just relegated the ISF into an also-ran with pricing today.

Better luck next cycle Lexus!!!

bmw sells the basic e92 m3 in germany (before taxes) for €54K or about $80K. maybe that way bmw makes up for selling them in usa at a lower price.

Check out my response to you in that thread. You need to fix your prices and thus your value equation is off somewhat.

Can't really decide beween 1 and 4 so I just voted for 1. Kind of based on the timing factor.

Fully loaded IS-F is $63.4k, fully loaded e90 M3 is about $72k.

Base $56,000
DVD nav, w/ML, $3,990
pre-collision $2,850
intuitive park assist $500
headlamp washer, $100.
TOTAL $63,440 + ttl

Or without the Mark Levinson system and just nav. it's $62,430.

T-Bone, i still don't understand why you think the engine is weak, especially with this logic.

And my answer to this is, with that logic, that means that all of the competitions engine is weak as well since they have all similar performance. But the bottom line is, the BMW loyal fans and enthusiasts will not even consider any other cars especially the IS-F. Even if the IS-F is cheaper. And if you buy the M3 stock and compare the IS-F stock, the ISF has no chance. The only incentive it has over the M3 stock is that the ISF stock comes with leather, sunroof and 19' inch rims standard.
