What about a full custom set-up with high flow primary cats (within spec to pass emissions testing) and then a 4-resonator mid pipe.
If someone were to make this, I would seriously consider it. Of course, the counter point is that with high flow cats and 4 resonators, the power gain doesn't justify the cost. Can someone tell me how much power is lost with a high flow cat vs. cat elimination? How about resonators?

I was looking into this but every thread I found or video I saw showed the M Perf with a high pitch rasp that was a bit annoying to hear. It doesn't sound like that at lower RPMs, but at the high end it's there. Where I netted out is any xpipe / catless set-up will kill the way the M Perf. sounds out-of-the-box.
If someone has a video to show otherwise, that would be interesting. |

Well, my thoughts about the M exhaust i have, is that if i were to put a fabspeed HFC, it will retain the same sound, because you still have the primary cat but a bit less restrictive. so i think that the noise should sound nice in every RPM.

I have the M Performance paired with the Macht Schnell Track Downpipes. The M Performance sound is retained throughout the RPM range, with an exotic note past 4,500.
EAS may have recorded a video of my car during a dyno post-install. Tom, could someone on your team post if you have it recorded? I think anyone who was present during the dyno could confirm the great sound and no excessive rasp.

I have m performance with a custom x-pipe and its a bit raspy around 4k...but people say it sounds better than my old setup which was xpipe and eisenmann race. much more exotic, and no drone is nice. probably can't get a video of it until June but I can assure you its not that raspy...I hate rasp normally

Its hard to replicate actual sound in a compressed video clip. This is quite possibly my favorite exhaust combo next to the Akrapovic system.

So, after countless years of wanting an M3, I finally picked up a used (Third owner) 2010 M3 with 48K. I've already caught the modding bug, and the first thing I got was the MPE. However, now that I'm doing a bunch of research on completing the exhaust, I'm reading all the comments on how everyone says that pairing an X-Pipe with the MPE is terrible and raspy... Certainly doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy after paying $3900 installed for it. Can you please tell me what the exact setup is? Is it the Schnell track pipes, with stock mids, and the MPE? Could you also please tell me how you think this setup would compare to a Dinan mid-pipe or the AA X-Pipe (Both HFC and Catless)? I'd really like to know if I should start looking for buyers for my MPE (Doesn't even have 500 miles on it) and go with a completely different setup, or if I should give something else a shot first. Any advice is welcome. Thanks all! |

The setup in the video is nice, there's a ton of rasp between 3.5-4.5k. But I wanted more bass and something more defined. That setup is just pretty much the car screaming at you the entire time.

If it were me, looking for the *best* pairing, I would probably do something like an AA's HFC setup to keep the noise down as cats have a great way of muffling the raunchier noises
A bunch of dudes parroting eachother on the internet is no basis to make a decision about your car IMO, do it and find out, if you don't like it sell it, worst case you've got a few more miles on the MPE which won't matter much for value I finally heard a decatted car (just test pipes) with the MPE a couple weeks ago and I thought it sounded flippin' phenomenal, but I'm around racecars all the time and I'm used to a bit of edge, YMMV

OEM secondary cats are still retained.

Yeah, so after watching Kitw's video, and doing a ton of searches, I haven't found anyone that's done either Dinan's quad resonated midpipe, or AA's HFC x-pipe. It will probably be a few months before it's my exhaust's turn again to be modded, but when it's time, I'll probably be deciding between those two.

The Mperformance exhaust was designed with the OEM cats in mind. The tuning of this exhaust is based on a OEM midpipe. Its a very aggressive cat back kit tuned for the OEM cats. Remove the cats and it becomes obnoxious..
