From what I've been told, the unit sends a pulse out with no signature attached.
It claims to have a good out of site range. Once the unit sends the pulse it shuts off (something on these lines) I've seen a demo and the V1 totally missed the radar pulse........Phil

I do not think the m3 or other "gas guzzlers" are as bad as people sometimes assume.

I have owned a couple six cylinder bmw's in the past, including an e90 and around the city in any stop and go driving, such as most bigger cities, my milage was consistently 14-15 mpg. Stop and go is brutal on any type of engine and does not really vary unless you drive a diesel which even then is terrible.

On the highway you can get 30mpg cruising in a 328 with 240hp at 70mph or get 23-24 mpg cruising at 70 with 414 hp in the m3. 5-6 less mpg on the freeway is really nothing in the scheme of things. Its different if we got 12-15mpg on the highway cruising but if you have a long freeway drive with good traffic flow than you can get a solid 24 mpg cruising at a good speed of 70. I agree I do not personally get that very often but I also do not care to conserve fuel.

I consider fuel as part of my "entertainment" money each month instead of spending money on alcohol or cigarettes or gambling or whatever others choose to spend their money on who do not like to drive their cars.

Pop mode. The Radar is off until the cop hits the trigger. By the time the RD gets it, you're done. This is why you use RD's for 'situation awareness'. Not as an excuse to speed.

I average about 120mph on the autobahn... So I'll never see something like this.
Agreed on a GREAT daily driver... It's just amazing!

The problem isn't the car, but the driver. I cannot, for the life in me, resist from going to WOT at least a handful of times during each drive. Most of the time on the highway, it's WOT in 4th, 5th or 6th, for a brief period, so as to avoid exceeding the "acceptable" speed on the highway. And then, during city driving, there is that opportunity to extend 1st or 2nd gear and go almost straight into 5th or 6th once you reach the road's speed limit (e.g. 45 mph).

So overall, while it's theoretically possible to get decent mileage on the right type of road, realistically, you never will because to go to WOT and high rpm is just too damn fun.
+1

Sigh... Hate these gas threads.

Hold up guys, I'm gonna go fill up, hit I-95, reset my MPG meter, and post my 35+ mpg.

I don't even know why there is an MPG reading on the M3 trip computer. Kind of a moot point.
