GGT $1300 for MDCT

My CA sent pics of my car at the dealership and the window sticker confirms the $1300 gas guzzler tax. A reduction would have been nice but it's definitely not a deal breaker.

Bummer, so much for BMW marketing again and their calls of efficiency...

yea, I thought marketing said the dct saved fuel. what a scam.

I guess it's a lesson not to believe anything from marketing, likely the 335i is a better all around car as well but the ///M stands for Money.

Is it possible BMW didn't put the MDCT up for an eval and are just sticking with current MPG ratings?

Doesn't surprise me. There was a GGT on the E46 SMG yes?

I had it on my tip S4.

There was no marketing nor technical reasons SMG should have offered better mpg. However, with M-DCT there is marketing, EU specs on mpg and information about the tranny specifically that purport better mpg.

Well, they first said the new M3 was 8% more economical....

Theoretical number not always match real life.

That's too bad. It would make DCT 50% off.

I think that's probably the case. I was concerned that might happen.

I'll ask that question when I see the M brand manager on Thursday night.

For a 70 thousand dollar car, I canīt imagine why the big fuzz about maybe, just maybe, saving $10 a gas tank!!!!! I would think people care more about the general performance of the car than a small percentage difference it may yield in gas savings.

The window sticker showed 14 and 20. Is that the same as the manual tranny?

I don't think this has anything to do with efficiency, it has to do with the fact that the EPA always assumes that if you have a manual mode, you will drive it "wrong" (i.e. wrong gear, inefficiently). My 97 E39 540i 6MT for example got 2MPG better than the slushbox, but the 6MT had GGT, the slushbox didn't

Ther is nothing wrong with wanting:

-less taxes
-spend less on gas
-as much of an environmentally sound car as possible
-true delivery of BMWs "Efficient Dynamics" blending performance with efficiency
-great engineering which CAN lead to Efficient Dynamics

These are not inconsistent with wanting a high performance car.

No they are not at all inconsistent, and if its the environment you worry about (as I do), then more power to you!!! I work in a firm that produces Hydrogen, BioDiesel and Ethonal (Not from Suger or Corn either). So I can really relate to all this. However, it seems to me that the fuzz is not about the environment but about not paying a gas guslter tax etc!!!

For me at least, it wasn't about the gas savings as it was about the Gas Guzzler Tax. I'd just prefer not to send any more money to the Gov't than I have to. I'd rather have that $1300 to spend on other things for my M3.

who wants to pay extra tax? I mean if you don't care about $$ why don't you just burn it or give it to a charity. Likely many people here pay a lot of taxes already and if they can save $$ what's the harm, also the DCT costs $2700 so it's not saving any money that way so why can't they hope for less tax? When BMW marketing said 'significant gas savings' or something like that some people were led to believe there could be some truth to it but not likely.

Also, since you're not in the US what's the fizz (whatever that means) why do you care or have anything to say about our GG tax since you're not paying it anyway.
