Akrapoviv Slip On Exhaust Drone
I purchased an AA Sig exhaust for $1500, but considering the Akra slip on...anyone familiar with/or have the Akra slip on have any issues with drone? If so, is it any worse than the slight drone (from what I have gathered) on the AA sig exhaust? Or will either make a diff since I will be getting the E93? Thx for any info.

slip on is more bassy, but no more drone than stock IMO...my toddler and 6 month old can sleep and have slept in the car without problems..

Unfortunately there is a bit of drone. However, even the stock exhaust has a little bit of drone. There are 3 instances where this exhaust seems to drone for me. First is the startup. It doesn't happen all the time but some startups can make the things in my car vibrate. Second is when I'm driving in the city in auto mode (DCT). The drone starts when I press the gas lightly at about 35-40mph and the car stays in 7th gear. The last instance is when I'm cruising at 2000rpm in whichever gear (but I noticed this with the stock exhaust as well).

One should never be under 2k rpms anyway in such a car, let alone 7th gear at 35-40.. there is no advantage(MPG as well). If you keep the revs above 2300, there is no drone whatsoever. |

That bassy sound, if excessive, especially at 1500-2500 rpm while under load IS drone. However, this is SO subjective.

Yeah, drone is so subjective.
For me, drone sounds something like a beehive buzz...but loud. And when I see a honda driving along side, with their rice exhaust buzzing loud while we are traveling at 45,....that is drone. That would drive me crazy especially on a long drive, or when trying not to attract too much attention (i.e. traffic police). I quite like the bassy, muscle car sound during startup of my m-perf. To me, there is no drone at all, again subjective. And then the exhaust wakes up and the roar begins at 4K and gets louder as you hit it. In the money zone 4K to 8K, its loud enough for me, plus its good to not drown out the awesome engine sounds with a crazy exhaust, don't you think? The sound under load, accelerating up hills, sounds best to me. Revving a car in neutral in a parking spot doesn't cut it. I would get the akra slip-on...because you know you will eventually upgrade to the full system

I think I should probably keep the AA and see how that sounds. If I am somehow dis-satisfied with the "drone/boom" I can then move to another exhaust bc from what I am hearing BOTH systems has it in some form or fashion. Hell I am going to go and see if I can pull up "drone" on youtube now... ESEPCIALLY since its a subjective area.. Thx again.

M Performance Exhaust sounds like it farts. For $4K I expected something more refined.

I was just listening to the M performance exhaust on the M3 from the posted video. I was intrigued when I heard you could residualize $1,000 of the price on a leased M3...but then hearing it from this video it didn't sound very nice...and for $3,999, there are better options (especially with zero HP increase).

The AA has a little drone in the low RPM's but sounds way better than Akra. Akra is a pretty exhaust but sounds boring as hell to me. Give the AA a shot first. If the drone bother's you, I'd look at Corsa or the M Performance for the best sounding exhaust w/o drone, IMHO. BTW, it's hard to capture drone on recordings, it's something you have to experience. It bothers some and not others. DCT tends to experience more drone than 6mt so take that into consideration. Good luck!
