How many of you have a crappy commuter car?

Here and there I see posts mentioning non-bimmer commuter cars. Just wondering now what is the percentage of those people as compared to all e90post members.

I personally never thought about having a commuter car. That would be like having an affair with an ugly chick while my beauty innocently rests in the garage.

I'd like to have one. I've put 16k miles on my car in only 10 months, 10k of which have come from driving to and from work.

I'd probably end up driving the beater car 3 days out of the week.

Damn, am I the only one so far that has a beater car??? I get mocked at all the time for this from my friends, but I'm really trying to ride out the 4yr/50k mile program and on my first year of ownership, I've already put on over 18k miles on it.

Plus I sometimes have to park in not so ideal places, so I'd rather take the beater in those instances.

E92 is my crappy commuter car...

I mean it's a freaking 3-series BMW, not a Collectible, not made of glass. Would suck to be driving in everyday in a POS so I can what? Visit my Coupe on the weekends? Makes no sense.

Then again I do have a parking lot just about all to myself, and my commute is all of 1.5 miles... So there is little chance of anything happening to my ride sitting right outside my office window.... (Knock on Wood)

Its just a 3 series!
Only in a car costing twice as much would it be worth considering keeping it only for the weekends.
Cars are like girl friends, you want a nice one everday, not just weekends!

My exact thoughts. Every day! And not once.

my daily's a '93 civic.
it gets 36 mpg in the typical chop of d.c. area commuting.
as an architect, if i'm visiting a job site, need to leave a car @ the airport or make a hardware store run, i don't have to think very hard about which car to take.

i don't wear a suit & tie when i'm doing yard work. i think that's a better analogy than girlfriends.

My E46 was supposed to be the commuter car, but I've been driving the E92 daily for the past month LOL...

Oh, I don't know about that! I'm thinking of buying a 1954 MGTD for around £13000. That's 2/3 the value of my E90 but I'd only want to drive it on weekends; and then, not every weekend.

I have a kinda commuter car. It's a 2006 Hyundai Elantra. My work is about 85% driving where I'll put on 1-2k miles a week. Plus I drive to complete ghetto neighborhoods so I am in no way taking my BMW. I couldn't even pull into some of the driveways of the houses I stop at even if I wanted to with the BMW, but the Hyundai I'll plow through things without even thinking.

I understand a BMW is not made of glass and was made to be driven, but even you gungho, run the cars to the ground guys like Revlis would think twice about driving their car in the amount and to the places I go. To give you perspective my brothers 2005 Toyota Rav4 has 55k on it and it's hardly a year and a half old. The Hyundai is 5 months old with 15k. Not the type of things I would consider doing to a brand new BMW. Although I would drive it everyday if I was going to a normal work setting, depending on mileage of course cuz I see no point in running a car out of it's warranty in 2 years.

A 3 series is a nice car...but like some have said...it was made to commute in. It's not a Ferrari for pete's sake. So what if you put some mileage on it...that's what it's for...

if 11.5:1 is "regular", i'd like to know what you consider high compression.
my next project for the ej is an lsvtec. slowly coming together.
