For everyone that has not used LC on your DCT...do it...

I have a 6MT now, but my e46 was an SMG II ... i still remember the horror/pleasure, dis/belief and my passanger stopping mid sentence when i was first able to do it ... IT WAS AWESOME !!!!!

also ... the first time i was so mortified..i forgot to shift... glad the newer one shifts auto

enjoy!!!

Damn I havent done this yet and I cant wait to try it out! About how much room do you think I would need to give it a shot? Did anyone ever do it wrong and end up sideways or anything? Just curious as to what can go wrong trying it for the first time.

do it in a parking lot or something first... so i kinda know what to expect...
first time i did it in the e46 was on a back road...NOT RECOMMENDED!!!! it almost got away from me... there was no MDM or any of that stuff and i have launched a DCT so idk if its smart enough to reduce wheel spin....the e46 just wanted to haul a$$ ... tire smoke everywhere.... i was fishtailing all over the place... and i had forgot to shift so the rev limiter saved me .... over all one of the best moments i've ever had in an M3....

second time was better because i sort of knew what the car would do when i let that gear go..

Ha thanks I figured id try it in a wide open area like a parking lot because of something like that.

Definitely something they could of made a little clearer.
Maybe I should read things a little slower, I was rushing through whilst trying to do it all at once!! thanks for the reply

Thanks for the reply, I think I might attempt again tonight!!

I tried this for the first time yesterday. My first attempt resulted in massive wheel spin and me coming off the accelerator.....fail. The second time I knew what to expect and ended up with a perfect launch. All I have to say is holy crap. The way the car hooked up and threw me into the seat was intense. Once you get going, the car just surges forward with 8K RPM shifts like a bat out of hell. Damn I love the M experience.

What did you do differently from the 1st and 2nd try?

I think I just slightly came off the accelerator which led to the launch control disengaging. Second time I was sure to keep it mashed to the floor the whole time. If you don't know what to expect the first time, it's pretty easy to come off a little and mess the whole thing up.

My shop has a cloned factory scan tool e46 and e9x doesn't record LC. Only time the ecu save something when things go boom. Then it tell u every that was going on at the time of fault like km/miles, eng speed, oil temp, trans output speed. Clutch psi, total sys psi bah bah and so on. On a 335i it read out water pump fault speed wanted : 4300rpm Speed at pump 300rpm it was not a happy pump.

Today marked my first launch control in the E90 M3 - wow!!! Had my sunglasses perched on my head - those flew into the back seat.

I thought it was easy to initiate and I did not have much wheel spin at all.

Was tons of fun.

They probably tried to make it difficult to do so people don't accidentally engage it, or do it too often.

I still haven't achieved launch control Every time I tried I either forget the steps or I'm on a slight hill and start rolling.

Launch control is a whole different world

Like many things in moderation, it's highly recommended!

Yeah, BMW won't pull a Nissan and void your warranty after putting a feature on a car that is meant to be used.

Sick, isn't it?

And yes, that "I'm a 16 year old again" is a great way to describe the feeling.

Cheers,

It probably wasn't engaged and you were just standing in the gas then. I'm not an engineer but I believe the purpose of "launch control" is avoid the inevitable plume of smoke that materializes when one stands on the loud pedal.

LOL

Guaranteed no STDs and nobody will laugh at your short d*ck.

Just launch control it.

Nothing personal - just trying to make a point
