i've put alot of thought into this and/or any other kind of apocalyptic event my next house will have a dedicated gun/safe room in the basement with a small lead lined closet within(cost of lead lining is too high to do the whole thing)

problem is that IF this has happened, someone living closer to the gun shop than you has already though of this and its already been wiped out and or held up. the BEST thing you can do have a system and or immediate people around you that you know will be stocked up. know who your "gun nut" neighbors are and if they have been turned or not. if they have then its fair pickens... if not pair up. the stronger your group the better.

things to have:

BASICS
- about 2-3 weeks worth of food and sealed water.
- good medic kit, including painkillers, a good supply of antibiotics(pill and topical) and the rest of the basics
- two full tanks of butane and a good compact gas stove
- good Molle backpack
- fire starter kit
- a couple books on survivalism
- lots of rechargeable batteries
- solar power USB and battery charger... i.e. http://www.envirogadget.com/solar-po...-by-powerfilm/
- gas mask

GUNS: you really only need 4-5 guns to KEEP for the any kind in the event of a zombie or other end world disaster. doesnt hurt to have more for bartering but these are the ones you give up under NO circumstance. (below is my preferences feel free to change for whatever you feel necessary and i will list my reasoning for said weapon below it)
- mid caliber rifle: Noveske 10.5" M4 .556 Carbine (dressed out)(.556 ammo is cheap for and it is super reliable, and ammo will be easy to scavange)

- handgun: S&W M&P. 9mm and/or .40.
(this gun is tuff as nalails and easy to breakdown/clean etc etc. 9mm ammo will be cheap to buy pre apocalypse but .40 will be easy to scavenge post since most police departments use this caliber)

- 12 gauge shotgun: Remington 870.
(good ol reliable! SBS'd down to 12" carry purposes 50/50 split of buck/bird shot rounds)

- small caliber rifle: Custom Ruger 10/22
(you WILL need to scavange for small game eventually, you can stock up on TONS of .22 ammo cheap and this allows you to save your more important larger caliber ammo for when you really need it)

- large caliber rifle: 7.62 chambered AR barreled for long range shooting(depending on what kind of apocalypse it is you may/may not need this and it also may depend on your geographic location.)

OTHER WEAPONS
- machete/short sword: Swamp Rat knives "Rodent Waki"
(kind of in between, battel ready and just flat out bad ass... dont have but want)

- survival/tactical knife: lot of choices by TOPS knives
(i have three and love them all)

another good choice is the cold steel recon tanto(this thing is bullet proof lol)

- crossbow: Excaliber Phoenix recurve
(lightweight, compact, reusable ammo... enough said)

- protective gear: can be lots of things, mine would be old moto gear, to cover limbs and what not to protect from zombies munching on you.

Ragers dont become walkers, its a different virus - and ive yet to see them come together. so if you kill a Rage zombie, its closer to killing a human, because its technically "alive", you just cure it... with death.

This excludes the "T-Virus" which mutates and can infect anything, and amplify characteristics of its host, the T virus is not limited to Zombies, its in a totally different category lol

Yes... Im a horror junkie.
Good to see another RE nut on here lol!

I have to ask, with all the preparation you have, what do you do when someone in your household is showing signs of "infected" and you can't quite tell if they're just getting sick or transforming into your enemy?

I would have a field day with 'Shaun of the Dead' zombies, but I would be mortified if I had to experience rage zombies. Fuck that!

Honestly. I know its a bad idea, but my weapon of choice would be a .357

My uncle and I go hunting or shooting when im down in Texas visiting and I feel that its the perfect zombie hunting caliber. We use a .306 for deer and .357s for boars.

The weapon is small enough to keep you mobile and more than powerful enough to take out a boar, or a zombie, in one hit. And the revolver matches my hat and duster really well.

The only problem tho, what if there are more than 6 zombies, ok then I have two, but what if there more than 12 zombies?

take no chances lol... even with loved ones. signs of bites or infection, fever etc. first restrain said person in a safe area and try to treat with meds incase its just an infection from a cut or something and not "the infection"(me being in sterile cloths, gloves and gas mask of course) and wait. if they turn put em down, if they heal let em go.

btw few more things worth having are some "cheap guns" for bartering like single shot, shot guns(you can seriously buy these for as cheap as $50-100.

you cant make gas but you can make bio-diesel. get a book on how to do so.

a good hand syphon pump will be good for all kinds of things like keeping you mobile. once you decide to get that way.

between watching ALOT of man-vs-wild, other various survival shows, zombie movies and being a gun nut since i was a kid, i think i would get by ok in the even of something like this ever actually happen although the likelyhood of it is probably impossible. i've had some moderate gun training but there are 2 magpul shooting classes i REALLY want to take and plan on taking over the two years. they cost 1500-1700 each once you include ammo because you run through 2000 rounds over 3 days on each course!

so... where would be the best places to go in event of zombie outbreak?

seems military bases get over run eventually and fairly quickly...so I doubt i'd choose that route... away from population seems the best bet... but where...

Depends on your location, Me for instance - We have some abandoned military Silo's and testing facilities (rocketdyne, nasa, boeing) in the hills right next to me, not too many people know where to find them and they are fortified to say the least. Thats where I am headed, safe - no people, need a 4x4 to get there, but close enough to the city so you can make the eventual trip for more supplies.

If I had the chance I would bring up a generator that runs on diesel, a few barrels of fuel, and a hydroponic system so I can have fresh food still, and hunt the cows that roam the hills, since farmer john wont be worried about them anymore.

Thanks Gavin. Only thing I was missing was the white zombie eye contacts but they weren't selling them anywhere because of some outbreak in eye infections since they were made in china...

Doubt there will be many cows surviving; especially if they're not free range. Saw a program on discovery where they talk about the world after humans. Without human tending, cows would starve. So you'll likely find a field of rotting cow meat. Not too sure what that will draw in. Would zombies eat cows?
