Annoying Oil Sensor

Yes, I searched. This isn't a question just a minor rant. 2011.5 E90 oil indicator said add 1qt. I added half since I had an oil change coming anyway. Now indicator says 7/8 full. Sigh. I may have to change my mind about all those people who had been nostalgic for a dip stick.

Park it somewhere level and force it to re-measure when warm. Cycle with control stalk to oil level; hold in for 2 seconds until it starts the clock animation; wait 1min or so for new reading.

Hey at least it didn't go over the top. I always add the full quart and have never had a problem...not sure why I'm so lucky.

Good luck - I agree it is annoying.

Lol I have had a lot of cars over the years with a dipstick and never had a single dipstick failure. Talk about a solution to a problem that didn't exist...

Wow. The electronics and software on those dipsticks must have been really well engineered for you to never have had a failure!

I wouldn't worry about it honestly. Just fill when it says to, leave it alone otherwise. Getting worried about what it shows on the level is a waste of time IMO.

I just had my 1200 mile service completed and after leaving the dealer, the oil indicator shows down 1/2. I think it is really annoying and I don't know whether to blame it on the sensor or is it really short of full. I have forced a remeasure while parked on level multiple time after driving the car and having everything warmed up.

My 07 335i never had an issue. For all the years I owned the car the indicator never moved off full.

Any way to get a straight answer from the dealer? I called my SA and asked about problems with the sensor readings and was told he had never heard anyone complain about it.

Am I just being too difficult or do I expect too much from BMW?

They probably just didn't put enough oil in...better than them putting in too much : ) The car has a 9qt capacity, so being down .5 will not affect anything. I would not sweat it personally.
