Thanks!! Fantastic instructions! Worked on my 11.5!!!
I should mention, I went the hybrid approach and just removed the A pillar about 1/2 inch, enough to see I wasnt crossing the airbag and also to get it tucked in. Hardest part is getting the cord in by the door, which if you have trim tools, still isnt very hard! Thanks again for the tip on #5!

is there an easier and quicker way to do this???...I remember with e46 M3 you could tap into the lights near the rear view mirror and didnt have to run anything to the fuse box...any DIY that uses this method???

But I think LateBraking's method is simple and clean. I didn't have to pop open any panels or piggy back any wires. Honestly, the hardest part in doing this was finding a place that sold the fuse-tap. Didn't realize auto part stores were so scarce these days. |

Latebraking, what is attached to the butt connector from the fuse tap? I can't see the blue tap that came from V1 in this picture. I can't tell if you have something else there. It's picture #13. The one before you explain about grounding with the torx wrench.
I got mine to work and hardwired. Wire is tucked and hidden but that blue butt connector is throwing me off. Did I miss something? Thanks for the great write up and pictures. By far the best I've found online.

You can just go ahead and ignore the butt connectors in that photo. You'll see that the whole tap looks different from what I actually used. That's just a nice and clear photo that I found elsewhere from someone else (I think from either picus, bilbarstow, or E92Vancouver's posts on E90post.com) that I used as an example for using a fuse slot that already has a fuse in place and being used: It's general advice and not relevant if you're using the specific unused fuse slot #5 that I recommended. Sorry about the confusion. Glad to hear that you got it up and running! |

I did this tonight and it was very helpful, so thanks for posting. One issue I encountered is that the e93 pillar does not have the "button" for the SRS so I wasn't sure how to remove it the trim to get the wire behind it. I was able to run the wire between the pillar and the windshield and then snake it into the glove and it looks pretty good, but was curious if anyone knew how to remove the trim on the e93. Thanks!

Just an FYI, the dash end plates pop right out. That allows you to run the wire from the A-pillar directly into the glove box.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Just finished. and it looks great. Two things: 1) The new Valentine1 kits come with a 2amp fuse, does it matter which one to use? I used the 3 amp will this affect anything? and 2) The A pillar is a bitch and a half to get back in after you remove it, so be careful.

Yes, the A-pillar is a bitch. I did this install 5-6 times by now, and I've done the A-pillar method once, on my own car. Ugh. |

I wired in my 135 like this with no issues. Took it out and moved it to my '08 M3 and can't get it to work. Followed the DIY and it will turn on, but then it just "hums". As soon as I plug it into the cigarette lighter adapter it works perfect. Plug it into the hardwired and it powers on them just emits a solid hum noise. I grabbed a standard phone cable from Target/Walmart - could that be the issue??
It's what I used on the 135 as well and it was OK. Any suggestions appreciated! |

Op thanks for putting this tutorial together. Worked like a charm, the PITA part was snaking and slipping the wire underneath the weatherproofing rubber near the glove compartment box.
As for the wires, I ended up soldering the connections together for a cleaner install. Kudos! |
