don't get one of the half ass x pipes that only delete the secondary cats and have to be welded to the stock pipe after the primaries. For one your compromising your stock x pipe (that is, if you have intentions of putting it back on when selling the car etc...), and you won't be getting that much power....the primary set of cats are the most restrictive. Get a full system from the headers back (Gintani, AA, etc...).

Get the Turner test pipes...they delete the primaries and you still get the OEM fitment as the rear 200 cpi cats are very free flowing along with the resonators. Not to metion they are less than $400.

I just installed the Sosi x-pipe (http://billswebspace.com/SosiXPipe.htm) for the following reasons:
-I have no plans to purchase software for this car -I wanted something that was reversible- cutting the OE x-pipe at or close to the welds and having a competent welding person allow for this -I wanted to retain the existing primary cats and not have any CELs The M3 is my wife's DD and she did not want an aftermarket exhaust but did want a little more sound and the Sosi provided this as well as being a bit more responsive in acceleration- she thought it was perfect, not a LOT louder but more racy sounding with a good tone. If the M3 was my DD, I would have gone the route of ESS software and Turner test pipes and retained the OE X-Pipe as some others have suggested. The clamps that came with the Sosi will do the job but I ordered some beefier clamps that are a little more robust- no worries with any future problems this way.

The brand you get should depend on your goals and requirements. Do you plan on getting an ECU tune? Do you have a problem with cutting your stock exhaust, or do you want a bolt on setup?

If you dont plan to tune, dont want a CEL, and dont want to cut into the stock exhaust, get the Fabspeed. If you dont mind cutting, get the Challenge.
I personally think a set of cats or resonators should be on the X pipe to cut down on the raspy sound, so I would not use the Sosi. |

^ this has been covered many times. The Turner setup, if you read on their website and in the many threads here, only eliminates the primary cats, and leaves the secondaries. Doesn't stink.

Here's mine (SOSI) with the Arqray axle back:
You think that's too raspy? It's a small displacement V8, not a big block. Quote:

^ Egad. Sorry man, but that sounds terrible to me. I know lots of people like raspy sounds but I hate them.
Neither my challenge, nor my fabspeed resonated, nor my turner test pipes sound anything like that with my Arqray. |

I have the Challenge Street X-pipe with the Akra Slip-on. Sounds just right to me, not too loud but much better than the Slip-on alone and better that the stock exhaust. No drone due to the resonators in their design. Also no concerns about passing vehicle inspection where I live.
They claim 10 wheel hp and 15 ft tq gains although I haven't dyno'ed to verify. Last edited by MJM; 06-04-2011 at 10:07 PM.. |

10 whp on 350whp motor?
I think you already know the answer. It will sound different and feel a little different, but if you think you can really feel a 10hp difference, there are a few more things I would like to sell you. In my experience, you need to get about a 10% power gain before you truly feel more power. To make any meaningful NA power on the M3 you need: 1. Intake 2. Header-back catless system 3. Hardware specific ECU tune Unless you are willing to do all three, don't waste your time. Of course, if you are modding just for looks and/or sound, that is a different story.
