Dilema with the wife..

You know sometimes I don't get it but I guess that's marriage for you. After the whole fiasco with trying to sell the M3 and getting the 335xi my wife is insistent on me downsizing. I was looking around and I have a coworker who might be selling his 2010 S4. Just wondering thoughts on this car?? I am trying to find something a little less but still fun to drive. In the end I might just end up convincing my wife its better to keep what I have (I have the maintenance and extended warranty until 2016 on this M3) but I at least wanted to look around.

Thoughts??

Am I happy I am not married !!!! lol sell the wife keep the car !

seriously though... I am not an audi fan, the only audi i would ever buy would be a v10 r8.

personally I am an AMG fan.. with that being said , the Audi is a sick looking car, never driven the S4 so cant feed in on that.

is it a 6-speed or auto ?

Its an Auto. With all the stop and go driving in the DC area I just do not want to deal with a manual now. Eventually when I get a new house with more space and a garage I want to get a fun weekend car that is a manual. More then likely a Z3/Z4.

Keep the car, downsize elsewhere IMO. The M3 is too big of a part of my life to part with it, even if it means I go out less.

Ah...marriage does change priorities. Ask me how I know

Having talked to a few indy shops and a Motorsport shop-their verdict was clear to me. <Stay the F away from Audi's especially after the warranty expires. >

Audi's are great inside but peel away the plastic and reinforcements underneath and it will paint a different picture mechanically. This is in addition to the horrendous DIY nature of these cars. Audi's are not easy cars to work on. My dad had an A4 and most recently a A6 and based on his experience.. he's sworn never to buy an Audi product again. (My dad is mechanically inclined)

Essentially-Keep the most dependable, reliable BMW ever made (E9X M3) and downsize elsewhere. You will regret selling the M3 down the road for sure. Nothing else you buy will reward you as much at the M3 in every aspect of driving.

If your argument doesn't suffice-show her this thread.

How does going from an E90 to another sedan = downsizing? You mean car payment?

Extend the warranty and keep what you have. Changing is rarely cheaper, and as other have said re reliability, I would rather own a BMW out of warranty than an Audi and that is saying something.

Yeah I am doing my best to fend her off and explain the amount of money we would save since the BMW has the maintenance package and extended warranty already on it.

If you are the primary bread-winner, keep the car. If you aren't, keep the car.

Seriously, don't let your wife be the thing that makes you walk away from owning your dream car. The S4 isn't worth your time. Inferior looks and inferior performance, FTL.

As many others have said, downsize else where. 2010 S4 is hardly a compromise. The M's value will take you a long way!

This guy says everything I would have.

If you downsize/grade to something else (S4..etc) whilst acting on the ideas/emotions of another, you will surely lose. You'll be reminded of your unsatisfactory decision every day until you inevitably get back into an M3.

If it is your money that you are spending (and you can afford it comfortably), keep it. If it is her money that you are spending, ask for a bigger allowance.

So you got your wife a 335xi and now she expects you to downgrade your M3? Dude you own an LCI-E90 M3, why would she insist on you downgrading? Maybe there's something she isn't telling you? Coz I know for a fact any woman (when $$ isn't an issue) wouldn't be saying let's downsize. If you are planning on having kids then even more reason to keep it, you wanna be hauling their crap around in a Prius or an M?

Well I think I will win out on this. As for being the bread winner its a 60/40 situation right now finance wise.

M3 is a keeper...downsize for a few grand...not worth it. I would have actually said S4 over 335...I haven't only sat in one briefly but I thought it would be more special than a 335...so I can't comment on reliability.

So many threads about pant-wearing wives.

If you're having this much trouble finding another car it's probably easier to find another wife. But if that Audi is out of warranty you need to get as far away as you can from it.
