Which exhaust? Ready to pull the trigger!
I've been wanting to get an aftermarket exhaust (just axle back)
for a while now and below are my choices from all of the searching and reviews I've read on this forum. One thing I haven't found is a quick summary of the more popular systems in the order of Loudness. Can someone put these in the order of louder to calm and also some thoughts on the exhaust note based on your experience please? I really don't expect much HP gains from an axle back exhaust so sound is the highest priority. (not too loud though) I'm open to all types of sound except the American muscle car sound. If I'm missing a system please feel to add to my list. 1.Eisenmann Race & 2. Sport 3.Remus Race & 4. Sport 5.AA 6.Meisterschaft GT & 7. HP 8.Gintani 9.RPI Thanks for you help |

Tons of sound clips and threads on sound and all this. a quick search will prob net you over 30 threads easy
you forgot the Dinan muffler most sound deep below 4k and then they get an exotic pitch up after 4k. most. some have the muscle sound all the time. then the really expensive Kressing one is most F1 like from what i have heard

The best thing I can advise is to listen to clips, listen to them in person and if you can, drive or ride in the car. Exhausts are a very subjective upgrade and really depends on how loud or aggressive you want it. The exhausts you listed run the whole spectrum of sound output so it would be best to figure out what you want (super aggressive, more grumble, fairly quiet etc...) and then listen to the exhausts in person to be absolutely sure it's a sound you want.

The Active Autowerke Signature E9X M3 Exhaust
The Active Autowerke E9X M3 Exhaust is made for performance as well as beauty.
Compare the designs and you will find out why Active Autowerke's Exhaust makes true power! Active Autowerke Signature E9X M3 Exhaust Eisenmann Remus Meisterschaft GT Gintani Exhuast RPI The Active Autowerke Signature E9X M3 Exhaust is the only exhaust in this comparison with the Signature Noise Cancellation Chamber (NCC) which cancels drone after 3K. Ask yourself what the quickest route between two points? A straight line is the answer! The straight through design is what makes the power. This exhaust enhances the sound of you M3 significantly as well as the power with a gain of 12 usable horsepower. The HP gains don't stop there. With the addition of the Active Performance Software, Performance Pulley, and X pipe the gains are above 25hp. Come and play with Power! PM if you have any questions on pricing. |

Move the 2 race versions under the AA exhaust and your list is probably about correct for quiet to loud.

nice sales pitch but it still has some drone. the other make true power too the Dinan has 0 drone at any rpm and makes true power the AA is a nice system but it isn't the holy grail or anything

Listening to exhaust clips and in person is your best bet to make the decision on the exhaust system that is right for you. The Remus Sport exhaust system has been a popular choice among the community and can be loud when you need it to be!!!

I'd put the Eisenmann Sport and Akrapovic in there too towards the more calm level.

Active Autowerke....your pathetic attempt at a sales pitch is what's wrong with this forum. You blab on and on about about how your exhaust's performance is superior.....PROVE IT!! Instead of attacking threads like a sharky used car salesperson why don't you try actually providing an insightful AND factual post??

Wow! Thanks for all of your responses and feed back. I must say I have listened to MANY video clips of cars revving and doing drive byes but it's hard to see how loud each system is compared to one another. Nothing better than your experiences and thoughts. Your candid feed back is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

In fact, the only systems I've heard with minimal drone are the stock exhaust or Dinan. (Even stock has some drone about 2K). I'm sure there are others out there with lower drone levels (some of the TI systems come to mind as do the $$$$$ signs that go with them). Dinan gets dinged because of fake tips, but it also uses Helzholtz chambers (like stock and AA) and the single tips are there for the very reason that even with a Helmhotz chamber the dual tip straight through design results will result in some level of drone. The advice Nick@Jlevi SW gave is as good as it gets. Listen and drive a car with what you're thinking about on it. "Drone" is a subjective measure as is "loud but not too loud". Take your time and have fun. |

Like what the others said, it is tough to pick an exhaust for someone as everyone appreciates a different volume and tone like music.
In my personal opinion, I love the Eisenmann race. To me that captures the essence of the high winding V8. It is beefy bark at low rpms and pronounces the high pitched sound at high rpms. The sound is tight -there isn't a hollowness or sloppiness to the sound. Rev-matched downshifts sound amazing. Its not overly annoying in the cabin and can be very calm for daily driving if you drive it casually. If you want crazier, add highflow cats and midpipes. |
