Blasted my clear coat off the fender the other day with an electric pressure washer : . What are my options for repair? Will consider DIY and just bringing it into a shop. Since the latter is difficult for me to do this week I figured I'd ask while I wait til the following week.

Some background details: I am the third or fourth owner of this car and at some point some of the panels were blended pretty poorly. The clear was definitely repaired, but I don't know if this particular fender was touched. I have been pressure washing cars for years and this is the first time I've seen an electric pressure washer do this kind of damage.

are you 100% sure the car didn't have a wrap or clear bra on it?

Not certain of those things. The thickness and brittleness of the material coming off is also consistent with clear coat. I doubt it is a protective film.

i think those films get sort of brittle towards the end of their service life. inspect the edges of your panels carefully. i'm thinking since you're an '08, the car got a clear bra that is just about done. i think those typically last about 7 years.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check for that!

If it was a clear bra, there would be visible seems and probably even some orange peel (though that could be easily mistaken for orange peel in the paint). It's possible this might be a newer "nano" film which is why you don't really see any seems.

Ultimately, this is best dealt with by a professional. Pressure washers make me nervous for this very reason.

You're correct, there is no seam that I could find and it does look like the original clear coat, unfortunately. I'll have a professional take a look at it.
