They did decide to put a SC on the new z06 which I'm not that much of a fan of.

Those "GN's" especially the GNX versions in clean condition swap hands for decent $$$$ nowadays

Seems like that's what 85% of M3 owners care about these days...

You got that right. The ///M recipe has changed. Think artificial sweeteners vs. natural pure cane sugar. Both are sweet but I prefer the latter

Performance of this car is impressive but I have a feeling that I'll be glad I waited for the 2nd year model. Kinks are coming I'm sure.

Visited the Welt tonight. Saw them for the first time. These colors do not do it for me. I hope to reevaluate in a different color.
These incoming reviews seem mixed.

Yikes. That's a worse review than I ever thought I'd see. Let's trot out an old C63 and then say we like it better than the new M4…….
He couldn't wait to bag on the engine. I mean seriously, when the fat steering wheel is the first thing you talk about, you know the review is heading the wrong direction….. |

This is surprising... and disappointing... for the M4. It seems that the E92 M3 compared more favourably to the C63 It's amazing what an engine does for a car... and he's also right about sound. Get the sound right and everything about the car comes more alive.
I'll reserve judgment until I can drive an M4 but not what I had expected at this point. Most new cars get raving reviews when they first come out but not this time. |

Wow the media reviews have started and some are just not holding back.
Meanwhile At the Welt: The M4 has a good patch of clear film in front of the rear fender well for stone chips. The M3 less so; more like a strip along that narrow outcropping for the same purpose. Probably not real visible in these pics. The fronts look mean with the lights on, the only part that drew me in. The back views--- not so much. Of course this is aesthetics. While these reviews are all about the driving... Just thought I'd share my experience on the ground here in Munich.

A bit of an additional gripe!!!
Just saw this at our hotel: A 420d vert, with M badges !!!!! Pictures may not be great. Oh yeah, from the factory.... Serious performance! :-/

Not saying that the M3/4 is in the clear, but I'm waiting for more video reviews. Better yet, I'm waiting to drive one myself. |

Chris Harris' notes on the M3. Hope it's not a repost for everyone:
Would you? Absolutely. I loved my E92, but it was surprisingly limited as my daily driver. Opportunities to enjoy that motor beyond 7,000 were predictably limited, the lack of torque left you exposed to turbo hot hatches and, well, you know my thoughts on the range. This car rights all of those wrongs. In isolation, the motor gets blown into next week by the current C63 507 for pure noise and theatre, but on the road the BMW's fuel consumption and massive torque would swing it for me. Sounds boring, but that's what matters in a daily driver. Not to mention the transmission which makes the Merc's feel pretty antiquated now. And I still think the powertrain feels special enough for an M car. The rest of the package is BMW M at its best. I think it's a truly special car. It made me smile for the two days that I drove it. When the video comes out in the next few weeks, watch the section where we talk through the level of modification over standard 3er. This car is 50 per cent new. It's a blinder. I'll have the saloon, the dampers, the big brakes, the DCT, and probably the baby blue. So exactly the car I drove on the launch then. Chris http://www.pistonheads.com/news/defa...?storyId=30002

It's official, ///M is dead. And for all the people saying, "people have been meaning about the death of M since the E36 was released, where do you draw the line?" This. This right here is where I draw the line. SUVs, EPS, turbos, and now M-badged diesels? Oh yeah, this is the line. |
