20L Ice tank- Harrop supercharged M3 - back seat install
Hello
I thought I would share one of the mods I have just completed on my Harrop e92, (the ice tank) The car has been in bits for many months having new intrax coilovers, F80 rear brakes, e36 evo zf lsd with stage 3 racing diffs clutch pack, 3.45 fd and new seals and bearings plus I’ve changed every rear bush for Monoball it’s been a bit of a kick up arse to get it done with the milestone of having the car geo and corner weighting on Friday, it’s been non stop over bank hol. All work has been completed by myself only and I can thankfully say it drives very well so far with no strange noises which is always a good thing, I haven’t pushed it much yet. Anyway back onto topic I thought I would share some photos and knowledge gained from completing this task. My car has a rear cage and no rear seats so I thought best places for the tank would be here. I set out to source the tank which I found a deal on eBay and around £95 for a 20l tank, the tank is actually made for fuel not water however at the price I couldn’t ignore. The water inlet and outlets were 12mm at the slimmest part (an10) however it has 2 inlets (top) and 2 outlets (bottom) so I just used both to stop any constrictions via y pieces, the Harrop pipework is 3/4 and 5/8 where it splits into 2 across intercoolers so wanted it at correct sizing. I made the seat delete out of 12mm ply and covered in carpet (made a cardboard cut out). The tank is bolted in place with m10 coach bolts and some spacers and nuts. I’ve also made a foam seat back delete piece which separates the boot to cabin which looks much tidier and takes a little drone away For the hose I used 3/4 pond hosing , trust me it’s the best solution, it’s strong, flexible and doesn’t kink. I actually went through 4 different hoses wasting money to find the right solution. As for routing one hose is from the 2 pipes that join at exit of the intercoolers, down the back of the exhaust header area as you can see from pic. There’s a nice gap there for both pipes and then I say the pipes on top of my dct box with heat wrap around then p clipped and cable tied to back. I opted to drill one single hole in front of boot floor and also knock through the oem grommet there to give both holes needed. I wouldn’t have to have drilled had it been for the mulf module as there is a grommet each side. I did consider moving mulf but wasn’t really a option. So the pipe goes direct front to back along transmission tunnel into floor pan, The other however joins at the front to the ally pipe then routes in same fashion but on opposite side of tunnel then routes over the top of the diff with heat wrap then onto the second hole. I cut the boot floor carpet so you can still take it out for maintenance. The bleeding process took a little patience but wasn’t too bad, I just filled the tank halfway then adding coolant to lines by disconnecting the higher pipes on blower and then blowing down the pipes till it puked and burped. Flow of stock pump is perfectly adequate, it seems to flow nicely. Looks like it all came together nicely i.e. a clean and tidy installation. Did you see a performance improvement and quite a big reduction in Air Flow Inlet temperatures? Just wondering if you have captured any data? I know my Harrop loves cold weather i.e. below 40F in South Carolina it seems to gain about 30 to 40 whp by my buttometer. Just an estimate on my part. I've never measured it on a dyno during cold weather days. Might be worth cross posting a link to this thread in the "Official Harrop" thread. Cheers.

Was the e36 evo zf lsd with stage 3 racing diffs clutch pack, 3.45 fd essentially a "plug and play" swop install? Or were other mods made to the rear subframe?

Seems to be very good so far, I had been suffering from a bit if belt slip before however after a belt change and sash cutting the pulley that's gone.
It certainly seems very relentless now and rips through gears paired with the dct |

The e36 evolution diff is same as e39 m5 one and fits in the original e92 housing, just needs new bearings and reshimming Iat are similar just doesn't heat up anywhere as quick, the idea is to buy time on track days |

The slip I would feel on flat out runs mainly when changing gear, it would sort of hesitate. Took me ages to work it out after datalogging and throwing parts at it. The pulley is quite small for a 6 rib and if the belt is decent it can slip. I also had rip cuts put in the pulley, this adds extra grip and airs the pulley stopping any potential belt float at high rpm |

The issue is likely the belt tensioner/pulley with regard to the slip. We installed a kit a couple months ago and while the car drove fine and didn't have any slip while NA, we couldn't get enough tension on the belt without replacing it before the car left the shop.
Nice job on the ice tank install, interested in seeing the temps!
