I called my dealer today, he told me that they got the software last week, but they are not gonna upgrade your software unless you have issues with the car...

In addition there are so many reports of bugs that are definitely not bugs.

As a side not my software is being installed as I type...

And I will add the short shift problem in D5 (around 5-6k rpm) under heavy or full throttle. I argued a bit about this with another member who called this "lag". This problem is definitely present.
Is this limited to 1st gear? I sure hope it has been solved with the update. Keep us posted. Thanks.

I called my dealer today to inquire about any software updates for the DCT and they said they'd call me back.

Three hours later, they called back and described the same service bulletin number that was posted on these forums. They said that even if my car is not experiencing any symptoms, that I should make an appointment because my car's VIN number brings up a service action to update the entire car's software to version 31.1.

They said it would take "several hours" and that they'd have a loaner car available for me since I won't be able to just wait for it. I made the appointment for this coming monday.

I was prepared to lie, cheat, steal, kill in order to get this update. Looks like that isn't necessary.

woot!

Do you guys think MY09 will have the updated software?

I'm due to pick up my car today or tomorrow.

I guess we'll just have to see...

When I called today, they said there's an update available for my call. I don't know if the notice was pushed by BMW NA to the dealer or if the service guys had put it there since they knew I had downshift problems on the track last month. Getting software update tomorrow morning.

It seems all DCT M3's here in Australia are getting the new firmware. Droped my car off yesterday morning for the firware update and it just got delievered back to me 20 mins ago.

My M3 has done 2400klms and had it's 2000klm (1200 miles) service about 3 weeks ago.

You might find that they will probably wait until or after the your 1200 service to do the upgrade unless you are actually have real problems with the DCT.

Known issues:
  1. Temporary loss of power at low (speed+gear+rpm) which happens just after some throttle "indecisiveness".
  2. Infrequent ignored upshifts.
  3. Engine stalling during take off.
  4. Ignored downshifts during on limit braking.
  5. Shifts from 2->6 and 3->7 in S mode occuring without shift requests during on limit cornering.
  6. Early/"short" shifts at 5-6k rpm in D5 under heavy or full throttle: NOTE: initial evaluation shows this has been corrected with the new software.
  7. When using LC the rev limited activated before the 1->2 shift

I am sticking to clear bugs here and personally do not consider the following to be part of this list above:
  • Delay between paddle actuation and beginning of clutch operation - This issue has been greatly improved with the new software.
  • Low throttle sensitivity during low to moderate acceleration take off

The short shift in D5 has definitely been sorted with the software upgrade. I have tried it a few times today and everything is OK.

How do you check out what software version you have? I'm picking up our '09 E93 tomorrow and would like to see if version 31.1 is already installed.
Thanks

Ask them to plug in their computer and check prior to collecting your car.

Guys,

I just got an update for the new gearbox as well. However, I am in a little phobia cause my dealership changed the oil for my transmission. I declined to collect the car when I found out and made a complain to BMW Asia. They sent someone down and accessed that the gearbox is fine as the gearbox oil did not get up to temp to cause any damage and was driven from the hoist to the collection area. They checked everything and flushed the system twice. I have no problems this far but I am keeping my fingers crossed. I have been driving the car very hard and it performs seamlessly everytime with no issues at all. I just love how this thing dont lag anymore.

However, I just want to check with those who got the new software, that in Auto mode, when you are slowing down say from high gears down to either 3rd or 2nd gear and suddenly accelerate, there is some hesitation before the gear is completely engaged and have a clunk sound like when you are slowing down to 1st gear. Just want to confirm this to put my mind at ease. Those who havent get the new software, get it. Its great. i would only expect it to get better as time passes by when they release improvments to the software.

Thanks in advance guys.

I emailed the dealer and got this response: "Your car would have the latest software and when I talked to one of the senior techs he does not recommend 31.1...he felt that if you car did need anything upgraded later you should wait for the next version."
I guess I'll pick it up and see how it goes. Any issues and I'll be right in there.

I just got through a chain of emails with my CA. Long story short, I've been able to confirm that they updated the software to 31.1 when the car got off the truck and will be ready when I pick it up tonight.

Just talked to my dealer today as well. There is a recall on the M-DCT for software update. I've got an appointment to have it done next week. h Unfortunately they say it will take all day.

mine was in the building for a total of 6 hours including alarm coding, i doubt it takes more than 4 hours for the DCT portion.
