You drive an E9x M3. Gotta pay to play... Also need to add ///M tax to play

I hate to post a tautology but it is worth what people will pay... For me it isn't worth even a small fraction of that.

6.5k is a lot, but its the bomb diggity, plus you can get a really nice used one for around 4.5k.

It's a lot to pay if you're comparing it to steel exhaust systems. It's not if you're comparing it to the few number of other titanium exhausts.

I bought mine used and, the way I look at it, I will be able to sell it for nearly the same price I paid for it. Titanium doesn't corrode, the system has a great reputation, high quality, and seems to continue to be in demand.

i am probs the only one who is not a fan of the Akrapovic system. even if it was way cheaper i wont buy one. to me a Meisterschaft GT2 is the best sounding exhuast for the M3.

but to your point. i wouldn't dream of spending that on a exhaust.

The sound is kind of weak. Even the GT4 is weak. It's too bad because it's a great way to reduce weight

For the price, there are better performing setups. Sound is something separate and may be a deciding factor.
Depending on your end goal your paying for the brand more then the product in this case.

IMO, too bassy down low for a daily driven car. Is it livable? Absolutely. But for $6000, it should be perfect. I think Akrapovic missed the boat by not going with a valved system to limit resonance/bass under 3k RPM. (It looks like Akrapovic's system for the M5/6 is a valved set up like OEM.)

The appearance, craftsmanship, performance, and weight are all 10/10 in my opinion. But the in-cabin bass killed it for me.

For reference, I personally think the M Performance Exhaust (on a stock x-pipe) is the best sounding exhaust on the E9x M3. If the Akra sounded like the MPE, I would probably give up one of my nuts for it if I had to.

So for about the same money you can get the full Evolve E-Tronic valved system.

I was planning on getting the full Akra in the spring, but the more I read on the Evolve system, the more I like it.

For the same money you can get the full Evolve E-tronic and tune. Its a far better deal than the Akra. The three appealing things about the Akra:
  • weight savings
  • titanium for extreme longevity
  • not an obnoxious sound

It is a hefty price tag tho.

I love mine, but the switch for me was rather impulsive.

I had issues with my Fabspeed setup where the drivers cat would hit over speed bumps with passengers in the car. It was really a gut wrenching feeling which prompted me to switch out to something I knew would have 100% perfect filament.

The Akra is a polar opposite to my previous setup which was more high pitched and raspy.

At the end of the day, even though it was pricey, I'm really happy with the akra 4 years later. Cold start is definitely unbearable with it, but this is rectified with software of course.

Sound is subjective, but for me the akra is a happy medium - enough volume when you need it, and not too loud/obnoxious, and no drone was another one of my requirements. There are other great choices out there too. The quality and craftsmanship of the exhaust is out of this world.. I wanted to hang it on the wall, not put it on the bottom of my car!

If anyone is interested in one, I think we have a special in the vendors section - buy an Akra and get a free Stage II tune with it.

I completely agree with Mike that I also would have loved to hang it on the wall than to install it. More often that not, coming from the Akra on my first M3, I have always desired something louder as it races to the end of the tachometer. Which is why I have an IPE now, but it is very obnoxious to the point of irritating if you leave the valve open for an extended time while cruising around. I also have issues with the HFC hitting sharp angled bumps slightly. None of which the Akra had other than the much tamer sound. Guess its hard to find that perfect exhaust after all hearing both extremes.

It is ridiculously expensive. And I never liked it before cause I'm poor + Youtube videos sounds crap.

But after going through 4 different setups, I came across a used one
and heard it for the first time in person. And I loved it.

Very different from videos.

Looks good, SO much lighter!!, easy to clean, high resale value (I might even make a profit!)
noticeable smoother power and its the sound I personally wanted after all. So for me at least, its worth it (used price).

Maybe look for a used one and definitely listen to it in person before making judgements.
Before I heard it in person, I thought it sounded shit.
Even the official akrapovic video doesn't sound the same as in person (obviously).

Oh and I love my cold start, it shakes the house during cold start lol
And sets of alarms at low speed, but I wanted that!

Yet it doesn't drone at all and has a fairly nice scream at higher rpms. Love it!

I've had the OEM ACM mod, MPE, Vanguard titanium, iPE and now Akra. I should have started with the Akrapovic. I would have saved money and had the higher quality exhaust for the E9x from the start. Amazing system!

Depends on what you are after. When my M3 was a race car only I paired the Akra slip with the most bad-ass x pipe ever to be made - MRF Velaforza. Sound is incredible. More refined and exotic (while being very loud) compared to any other system-/combo.

However now that my M3 is only doing DD duties with the occasional track day, I'm switching to the full Akra Evo system. Yes it's quite but very refined and of course the weight savings is it's best attribute if you need cats. So not for everybody, but certainly worth it for those who have heard every system out there and want the best for a relatively quiet DD setup and performance at the same time.

OEM exhaust mod and call it a day. No don't call it a day go take yourself to a nice steak dinner, buy your self some nice new clothes, and hit the titty bar after all the money you just saved yourself while having a badass sound for your m3.

The akrapovic is probably so expensive because of the material. After a bunch of research, I found out that the Dinan exhaust gives a very similar sound to the Akrapovic. The biggest difference is the price and the weight. The dinan exhaust is also lighter than stock, so the delta between the akra and dinan is small, and the dinan rear section is about $1500 cheaper than the akra. So I ended up going with that. With regards to the x-pipe, ended up pairing the dinan with test pipes. And together they sound just like an akra evo, but maybe 10% louder?

Anyway, it really depends. If you're going after ultimate weight savings, the akra is the only way to go. If you want that kind of refined high pitched sound, Dinan, Akra, and maybe some others will sound like that.
