Will the new 2008 C63 AMG KILL the e92 M3?
The numbers look superior to the M3.

The C63 will def. have more torque, but as for handling i dont think i can match. Also not to mention only a slushbox is offered.

My jumbled thoughts. First, it looks awesome. Although it does appear to have a much lower redline than the M3 (looks like maybe 7100?). The new M3's high rev V8 might be more fun, or at least more fun sounding.
Also looks to have one of those electronic parking brakes. Not sure how I feel about that, having never used one, but it seems like something that is more likely to break than the traditional pull handle. I love the flat bottom steering wheel. Why do all MBs have that keypad near the radio? What is that? It looks like an old-fashioned in-car phone. I guess presets? I've never been a fan of the MB seat controls on the door. I really prefer to shift gears the traditional way. I wish they made it with a 6MT.

Or, since stock M3 e46 and 335 are close, you could say 3.7L vs. 3.2L (M3) But again, any car can be boosted to xxxHP/TQ, but none so far has the overall feeling of the BMW... But again, I have not tested the G37 yet... |

WHOA! I have always believed that competition between different companies always ends up being best for the consumer.
It forces each company not to rest on their laurels and to be one step ahead of their rivals. I say "Go Mercedes Go!" |

Well considering the C63 weighs 4850lbs, I'd say no..
Maybe, just maybe in a straight line it would be close, but there's no way it would be able to keep up in the twisties. |

Most likely in a straight line but the M3 has never been about straight line speed. AMG is more of Luxo-Cruisers, //M is more about handling/high revs/etc.. I'd like a Black Series Benz though.

I like the way it looks, and I like the interior
but I have doubts about it will the car be reliable? will the car handle well? the answer to both these questions is probably not. I guess we'll have to wait and see |

The european mags (CAR, EVO, TOP GEAR), based on some spy shots and their sources...they believe the C63 will trounce the new M3.
In EVO magazines Car of the Year competition, a driver in the new Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano was awe-struck by his first drop of the 599s hammer..."lung flattening and numbingly savage" acceleration he wrote. But he looked in his rearview mirror and there was the CLS63 (right on his ass)!! Now think about that for a second. Then, think about that engine in a C class. I think Mercedes is onto something!! BMW is a foil...light, quick, efficient...MB/AMG is a saber (heavy, brutal, brutally effective). Both kill in different ways. Cheers P.S. I didn't answer the OPs question...MB wins the drag race. And (big sigh), maybe around a track. |

Perm. gross vehicle weight kg: 2200 Not sure what "Perm. gross vehicle weight" is, but that was what I went off of. It seemed pretty heavy to me too, but not crazy considering the heft of all MB's. One thing I'm curious about though is why MB would de-tune the motor. This is the same motor used in the E63, CLS63 etc. In those cars it's making 507hp and 465tq, why de-tune it? I can understand they dont want it to be that much faster than their more expensive models, but why not? If I worked for MB I'd do it and just put the M3 to shame. This does mean that whatever MB did to cut the power, could be reversed pretty easily to get the full power potential. :rocks: Hopefully MB didn't do something stupid like lowering the compression ratio to reduce the power, then you'de be f*cked, but if it's just ECU tuning and uber restrictive exhaust and other bolt-ons, then this car would own the M3. |

no way. cls63 is in the high 90s e63 in the 80s. the c63 gotta be in the 60s or else just doesn't make sense. also the car look longer in all the pix. impressive#s being put out by this, but the M drivers have always been younger and more versatile consumer. This is more I see for the mid 30s to high 30s who has a small family and wants to get a sporty car. AMG along with Black series are making some serious cars. Have you ever seen their braking systems. woozers, they are nice. |

C63 Motor Trend, "starting around 60K". So with some options it will probably fall around 65,000 US. The only color I have seen that I like with this model was white. Looked pretty hot. Hummmm.....Yup, I would like to test one out. A long long time ago my dad had a C43. That rascal would pop your neck back real nice. 6.3L may cause injury. I likey!
CL63 starts around 130K US, Motor Trend.

My guess is with a 174 top speed, yes, it smokes the e92 M3. With over 400 ft lbs., MB wins again. AMG > M, it's that simple. But, I doubt it can match the M3 for the overall package. For pete's sake, the new M3 has less torque than a 335.
