I am in the market of buying a used 335i. Are there any things I should look out for or be sure to get?

thanks in advance

Make friends with your local Service Advisor. Ask him to run the VIN and determine what has been done on the car. Look for High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) replacements and wastegate issues. I would stay away from any car that has had its turbos replaced as, in my opinion, that could be an indicator of a car which was modded and driven a little to hard. Thats just me.

PS-
In my opinion, DO NOT get the car unless it has both sport and premium. An absolute must.

Well it just makes some mods easier and there are less problems because the after march is when BMW started to fix some of the minor bugs they had. You can chekck it on the driverside door.

I agree with ^^^^^^^^^^^^. It's not a scientific way of looking at things, but the turbos stuff seems to have happened up-front for those who would have the problem. A guy at the gym had his turbos/injectors/coils replaced at 20k, and he did thrash the car as he described.

I'm sure problems can surface too at say 57k, so it may be a ****shoot.

My advice to anyone is to get as much original factory warranty as you can in your purchase, so imho a car no older than 2 y.o. and 25k mi. is ideal. Anything older and with more mileage is probably not worth the $$$ savings.

For cars with navigation produced on and after 3/07, it comes with the 6 programmable keys on the dashboard which can save your favorites. I think there are also some other programming differences but I am not sure.

sport and premium would be must have's for me, new or used.

Maintenance history, even though BMW has free maintenance not every car has done it properly.

Warranty claims - must be checked. HPFP is a big red flag. Some cars have had multiple HPFPs replaced, others go 100k miles on the orginal. Look for other serious repairs. You don't want to take on someone else's problems.

Don't worry about that, its not a huge deal. It also means it will have a welded dif meaning its twice as much to put an LSD in it.

Just look out for hpfp failures, eggs in the tires, signs of modding(looks like edu gas been opened) that can screw you if your stealership is an a hole.

That's a 100% wrong advice. Wtf ?

Turbos are replaced with famous wastegate rattle. New turbos are always a good thing. And why would u want to look for hpfp ? They break at random miles and carry 120 mile warranty for 10 years anyway.

Wastegate rattle is pretty much a big issue which u need to make sure the car does not have or even better if it has been fixed previously (wastegate actuators or new turbo set up)

Make sure it's CPO or still has warranty left.

How is this wrong advice? Wouldn't you want to know the work that was done on your car? WOuld you like to know the type of driver?

Personally, I like a nice clean canvas to paint my own picture on. I'm not into inheriting someone else's issues, regardless of warranty extensions and whatnot.

While it is true that new turbos are always a good thing, wouldn't you want to know that they were replaced? At least know what you are getting into before you sign.

Yeah, these cars are real sh!tboxes without that self-dimming rear view mirror.

To know car history is one thing. U said that if turbos have been replaced its bad, and in fact its the best thing u can ask for if you are buying a car without warranty. And u don't need to "look out for" hpfp issue, there is nothing to look at. It breaks, u go to dealer and get a new one, its covered even if u don't have any warranty.

And like I said, wastegates is pretty much the only issue to really worry about.....

If the car has sport suspension, sport seats, xenon lights and has never been tuned, it's prefect.

Sorry I meant "ECU HAS been opened", which is the computer where some tunes are needed to be plugged in. HPFP=high pressure fuel pump look to see if its been replaced and if so how many times. Eggs in the side walls of your tires, look it up on the forum you can see what it looks like, runflats are notorious for it.
